WASHINGTONMinnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, a conservative firebrand and a favorite of tea party Republicans, said Wednesday she will not run for another term in the U.S. House.

Bachmann, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination last year, announced her decision in a video on her website.

"My decision was not influenced by any concerns about my being re-elected," Bachmann said. She narrowly won a fourth term in 2012 over Democrat Jim Graves, a hotel chain founder who is running again in 2014.

The Democrats Respond to Michele Bachmanns Retirement

John Hinderaker

5/29/13

This morning the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent out an email commenting on Michele Bachmanns announcement that she will not run again in 2014. The email employed the breezy, low-rent tone that the Democrats have perfected. You wonder who writes these things; is it a 22-year-old slacker, or is there some middle-aged guy who gets paid millions to impersonate one? The emails subject heading is this is CRAZY. That capitalization (and lack thereof) is carefully calculated:

John

Late last night, Michele Bachmann released a crazy web video announcing that shes leaving Congress next year.

What is crazy about the video? Nothing, of course. But the Democrats try to put the word crazy in proximity to Micheles name as often as possible.

THIS IS HUGE! Now that the Tea Partys ringleader has called it quits, Boehner has to be wondering whos next to go. If we can sweep up 17 Republican seats, we can take Boehners Speakers gavel and win a Democratic House for President Obama!

The Democrats tone could be summed up as: Were trashyand proud of it!

Bachmann opponent suddenly retires, too

Ed Morrissey

After Michele Bachmann announced her retirement this week, many people Republicans included thought the move would make it easier for the GOP to hold MN-06 with a fresh face. Looks like Bachmanns already-announced opponent, Jim Graves, agrees:

That leaves both parties without a candidate and Republicans with a Cook index of R+8 in the district. Small wonder that Graves would rather spend his money on other pursuits.
