Obama and the IRS: The Smoking Gun?

March 31, 2010.

According to the White House Visitors Log, provided here in searchable form by U.S. News and World Report, the president of the anti-Tea Party National Treasury Employees Union, Colleen Kelley, visited the White House at 12:30pm that Wednesday noon time of March 31st.

The White House lists the IRS union leader’s visit this way:

Kelley, Colleen Potus 03/31/2010 12:30

In White House language, “POTUS” stands for “President of the United States.”

The very next day after her White House meeting with the President, according to the Treasury Department’s Inspector General’s Report, IRS employees — the same employees who belong to the NTEU — set to work in earnest targeting the Tea Party and conservative groups around America. The IG report wrote it up this way:

April 1-2, 2010: The new Acting Manager, Technical Unit, suggested the need for a Sensitive Case Report on the Tea Party cases. The Determinations Unit Program Manager Agreed.

In short: the very day after the president of the quite publicly anti-Tea Party labor union — the union for IRS employees — met with President Obama, the manager of the IRS “Determinations Unit Program agreed” to open a “Sensitive Case report on the Tea party cases.” As stated by the IG report.

In fact, this record in the White House Visitors Log of a 12:30 Wednesday, March 31, 2010 meeting between President Obama and the IRS union’s Kelley was not unusual.

On yet another occasion, Kelley’s presence at the White House was followed shortly afterwards by the President issuing Executive Order 13522. A presidential directive that gave the anti-Tea Party NTEU — the IRS union — a greater role in the day-to-day operation of the IRS than it had already — which was considerable.

Kelley is recorded as visiting the White House over a year earlier, listed in this fashion:

(CNSNews.com) – The head of the National Treasury Employee Union (NTEU), which represents employees of the Internal Revenue Service, met with President Barack Obama in the White House one day before the manager of the IRS’s “Technical Unit” suggested establishing a “Sensitive Case Report” for the tax-exempt status applications of Tea Party groups, according to data from the official White House visitor log and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

The White House visitor log shows that NTEU President Colleen Kelley met with Obama--“POTUS,” President of the United States--on March 31, 2010.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report on the IRS's targeting of the tax-exempt applications of Tea Party groups for heightened scrutiny includes a "Comprehensive Timeline of Events" that outlines the IRS actions in this matter over the course of more than two years. The fourth item in this timeline says that on “April 1-2, 2010,” the "new Acting Manager, Technical Unit, suggested the need for a Sensitive Case Report on the Tea Party cases. The Determinations Unit Program Manager agreed.”Scissors-32x32.png

The Senate Finance Committee sent a 41-part request to the Internal Revenue Service aimed at helping the panel “explore” the agency’s targeting of conservative organizations who sought tax-exempt status.

Senate Finance panel wants answers from IRS by end of month –In writing

The letter is addressed to acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller, who was removed from office last week after a report by an inspector general disclosed that IRS agents were told to “Be on The Look Out” for groups with names that included “Tea Party,” “Patriot” and “9/12,” or otherwise signaled conservative leaning.

“These actions appear to be a clear breach of the public trust,” the letter, signed by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont. and Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. “Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is also intolerable.”

Among the items the Finance panel seeks by May 31 is a list of the questions the IRS sent to groups seeking tax-exempt status as well as “all words and phrases used to by the IRS to target applications for additional scrutiny.”Scissors-32x32.png

UNREAL!… IRS Shake Down of ‘True the Vote’ Involved Visits From FBI, OSHA and ATF – Who Checked Gun Safe (Video) Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, May 19, 2013, 11:36 PM

Catherine Engelbrecht of True The Vote joined Governor Mike Huckabee to discuss the harassment and abuse she received from the Obama IRS since she applied for tax exempt status. Her group does not advocate for particular parties or candidates but just for fair elections at all levels. The group obviously is a huge threat to Barack Obama and Democrats. Engelbrecht reminded Governor Huckabee that in the last 18 months voter fraud cases have been prosecuted in 36 states.

Libertarian Party on IRS Scandal: Don’t Investigate — Eradicate!

by Bridget Johnson May 20, 2013 - 7:30 am

The Libertarian Party has a quick fix to the problem of the Internal Revenue Service singling out certain political ideologies for extra scrutiny.

“We must abolish the IRS and end any need for a regulatory agency that snoops into people’s private lives,” said Libertarian Party Executive Director Carla Howell. “We must draw back total federal spending to the level of 1992, which is more than enough to fulfill the government’s constitutional duties to protect our life, liberty, and property. This will allow us to balance the budget immediately, end the federal income tax completely, and give back an average of more than $12,000 to every family in America.”

The party noted that FDR, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and now Barack Obama have all been caught using the IRS to target political enemies.

No investigation or probe will change this from happening again and threatening free speech, the Libertarians argued. Scissors-32x32.png

5 Troubling Questions About The IRS Scandal

Tue, May 21 2013 00:00:00 EA12_ISSUES

Posted 05/20/2013 06:34 PM ET

Scandal Watch: Despite White House attempts to brush the IRS scandal aside as "irrelevant" or the work of rogue miscreants, huge questions remain about who ordered IRS agents to harass Tea Party groups, and why.

Every day, in fact, raises new and more disturbing questions that congressional investigators must get answers to. Among them:

1. Who told Internal Revenue Service workers to target conservatives? It's becoming increasingly clear these workers did not act on their own. Over the weekend, the Washington Post quoted an IRS staffer saying how "everything comes from the top."

The New York Times reported that IRS accountants got a "directive from their manager" in early 2010 to "be on the lookout" for Tea Party-type groups.

And Treasury workers union President Colleen Kelley told the Associated Press last week, "No processes or procedures or anything like that would ever be done just by frontline employees without any management involvement." So which manager issued the directive? And how far up the chain of command does it go?

2. Who knew what, Scissors-32x32.png
