Valin
Fox News: 5/13/13 A Philadelphia doctor was found guilty Monday of murdering three babies born alive in an abortion clinic, Fox News confirms. He was acquitted in the fourth baby's death, and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of an adult patient. Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, was convicted of first-degree murder and could face execution in the deaths of three babies who authorities say were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy clinic, in a case that became a flashpoint in the nation's debate over abortion. Gosnell was cleared in the death of a fourth baby, who prosecutors say let out a soft whimper before he snipped its neck. Gosnell was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the drug-overdose death of a patient who had undergone an abortion. (Snip) The problem is by the time the punishment phase & appeals are done he'll probably die old old age.
Valin
Gosnell Did What Many Bioethicists Advocate Wesley J. Smith May 13, 2013 To say the least, I am very pleased that Kermit Gosnell was found guilty of three first-degree murders (among other crimes) for the slaughter of three babies born alive after botched abortions. But this clear victory for justice should not blind us to the societal context in which these crimes occurred. Infanticide has been actively promoted as moral and ethical for years among the world’s most famous bioethicists, most notoriously by Princeton’s Peter Singer. Indeed, absent the sanitation issues, fetal body parts in jars, and method of killing, I am not sure exactly how Gosnell’s acts differed in kind from “after-birth abortion,” advocacy for which takes place regularly in the world’s most prominent and influential medical and bioethics journals. Indeed, the Oxford-based Journal of Medical Ethics just published a special issue dedicated to debating the pros and cons of infanticide. Once an issue is deemed “debatable,” by definition, it has become respectable. Think about it: Would any prominent policy journal ever debate the pros and cons of racism? Not on a bet because defending racism is beyond the pale. That the same disdain isn’t applied in these journals toward infanticide is cause for tremendous concern. Valin
More From NRO Gosnell Is Not an Aberration The Editors 5/13/13 A jury in Pennsylvania has convicted abortionist Kermit Gosnell of three counts of murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, and several counts of performing illegal late-term abortions at his facility in West Philadelphia. Gosnell is eligible for the death sentence, an end that would be as close to justice as earthly powers can mete out in this episode. The English language does not contain a word sufficient for describing the crimes of Kermit Gosnell; “murder” will do, but only for legal purposes. Gosnell’s human abattoir is the logical endpoint of our morally fraudulent national approach to abortion, the proponents of which maintain that they wish the procedure to remain “safe, legal, and rare,” in Bill Clinton’s cynically triangulating formulation, while at the same time resisting any and all restrictions upon the procedure. Gosnell’s murders are not an aberrant abuse of the abortion license but an inevitable result of it. Gosnell had thousands of enablers: every judge and justice who has declared every abortion sacrosanct, every politician who has blocked meaningful regulation and oversight of the practice, and every intellectual who has furthered the notion that what resides in a woman’s womb is nothing more than a meaningless clump of cells. Barack Obama, who as a state senator in Illinois worked against establishing protections for infants marked for abortion but outside the womb, must assume his share of guilt in this matter. So must those who voted for him because of his abortion absolutism rather than in spite of it. (Snip)
Valin
NARAL: Statement on the Kermit Gosnell Verdict (Snip) “Justice was served to Kermit Gosnell today and he will pay the price for the atrocities he committed. We hope that the lessons of the trial do not fade with the verdict. Anti-choice politicians, and their unrelenting efforts to deny women access to safe and legal abortion care, will only drive more women to back-alley butchers like Kermit Gosnell. “From the lack of funding available for low-income women to access abortion services, to the sharp decline of reputable providers in Pennsylvania, to the gross negligence of authorities to enforce the law after complaints were filed against Gosnell, each aspect of this case must be a teachable moment for lawmakers: until we reject the politicization of women's medical care and leave these decisions where they belong — between a woman and her family and her doctor — women will never be safe. The horrifying story of Kermit Gosnell is a peek into the world before Roe v. Wade made legal a woman's right to make her own choices. Valin
Gosnell spared death penalty after waiving appeal Allahpundit 4/14/13 Was this a quid pro quo? I’m surprised that the court would allow a prosecutor to hold a death sentence over a defendant’s head to pressure him into giving up his right to appeal. Maybe it wasn’t: Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted Monday of first-degree murder in the deaths of the babies who were delivered alive and killed with scissors. The 72-year-old Gosnell gave up his appeal rights Tuesday, and prosecutors agreed to two life sentences without parole. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty because Gosnell killed more than one person, and his victims were especially vulnerable given their age. But Gosnell’s advanced age had made it unlikely he would ever be executed before his appeals ran out. Gosnell is to be sentenced Wednesday in the death of the third baby, an involuntary manslaughter conviction in the death of a patient and hundreds of lesser counts. Draggingtree
AG Holder Not Familiar With Born Alive Infant Protection Act Enforcement By: Breeanne Howe (Diary) | May 16th, 2013 at 10:30 AM Now that abortionist Kermit Gosnell has been convicted of murdering three infants born alive in his Philadelphia house of horrors, a new case has come to light in Houston, TX. Abortionist Douglas Karpen is accused of, among other heinous acts, twisting the heads off living babies. Unfortunately, infants being born alive and subsequently murdered during botched abortions has been happening in the United States for a long time. In fact President Obama was first publicly made aware of the crime in 2001, when he refused to pass an act banning it as a state Senator in Illinois. The law passed once Obama left the state Senate. snip The federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which was passed in 2002 http://www.redstate.com/2013/05/16/ag-holder-not-familiar-with-born-alive-infant-protection-act-enforcement/

Draggingtree
Maryland Abortionist Who Stored 35 Frozen Aborted Babies Loses License by Dr. Susan Berry21 May 2013, 5:17 AM PDT The Maryland Board of Physicians has permanently revoked the license of abortionist Nicola I. Riley. In a blistering order issued May 6th, Riley was prohibited from ever again applying for licensure or reinstatement of her license.According to pro-life organization Operation Rescue, Riley’s license was first suspended in September of 2010, after having perforated the uterus and pulled out a bowel of a patient at an illegal, clandestine late-term abortion clinic in Elkton operated by abortionist Steven Chase Brigham, who is not licensed in Maryland. Both Elkton Police, and a physician at a Baltimore hospital to which the patient was air-lifted for the emergency surgery that saved her life, filed complaints. Physicians found that part of the fetus had been shoved into the patient’s abdominal cavity when Riley ruptured her uterus. When police raided the Elkton clinic, they found the remains of thirty-five frozen late-term aborted babies. Both Riley and Brigham were arrested and charged with murder of the babies, but charges were dropped after an expert witness for the prosecution abandoned the case under pressure from the abortion lobby. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/05/20/Maryland-Abortionist-Who-Stored-35-Frozen-Aborted-Babies-Loses-License

Draggingtree
After murderer Kermit Gosnell was brought to justice, there are gruesome allegations that Houston abortionist Douglas Karpen murdered babies and operated a “house of horrors” clinic. We can do more to stop these incidents from ever happening with your help. First, find your State Senators here: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx Then, call your State Senator and tell them to support SB 25, SB 537 and SB 1198. SB 25 would outlaw abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. SB 537 would force Texas abortionists to abide by the same regulations as those governing ambulatory, or outpatient surgical centers. SB 1198 would require Texas abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion facility. Why are these so urgent? Here’s why: BREITBART: "A new video exposé released Tuesday of the Aaron Women’s Clinic in Houston, one of three clinics owned by abortionist Douglas Karpen, depicts gruesome details of the practices of an abortionist who is currently facing a criminal investigation for allegedly allowing late-term babies to be born alive then twisting their heads off with his bare hands." (Dr. Susan Berry, "Texas Lt. Gov. Demands Investigation of Abortionist After Video Exposé," Breitbart, 5/15/13) "Texas Lt. Gov. Demands Investigation of Abortionist After Video Exposé." "The lieutenant governor of Texas, David Dewhurst, demanded an investigation Wednesday of an abortionist whose employees claim he twisted the heads off of babies who were born alive during abortion procedures. (Dr. Susan Berry, "Texas Lt. Gov. Demands Investigation of Abortionist After Video Exposé," Breitbart, 5/15/13) For too long, abortionists have run roughshod over the law. It’s time to hold them accountable for their actions. Call your State Senator today and tell them to pass SB 25, SB 537 and SB 1198 out of the Senate today!
