Casino67
Detroit News: Richmond, Va. — Virginia law will require all voters to have photo IDs beginning next year. Gov. Bob McDonnell signed a bill Tuesday that his fellow Republicans said was a safeguard against voter fraud. Democrats bitterly denounced the legislation as a Jim Crow-era tactic to suppress the votes of the elderly, minorities and the underprivileged. The legislation provides for a free valid ID with the bearer's photo to any registered voter who lacks one. Along with signing the legislation, McDonnell issued an executive order directing the State Board of Elections to start a public education program to tell voters about the new requirement before the 2014 congressional and U.S. Senate elections. //End//

Valin
Raw Story: Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell signs voter photo ID bill Comments Hoodathunk • 4 hours ago Ah yes, another patriotic Republican fighting the good fight against a problem they have imagined, spending money to protect the public from an issue of their own making. Stumptownhero • 4 hours ago You have just posted the definition of a modern day Conservative! MargaretEDavis • 3 hours ago Because mostly every single one of the so called voter fraud cases were done by republicans. And besides if he wants to make this law then he should fund one of those RV types that goes out to the communities and take photo ID for the citizen COST FREE. And if the person has no birth certificate they should search for proof of identify and provide that COST FREE. If they did all this it would prove that all they want to do is stop fraud. But that's not the case what they want to do is stop the elderly and ethinic groups that vote Democratic. He is so obvious. but then aren't all republicans transparent when it comes to trying to deny Democrats he right to vote. davisss13 • 3 hours ago Nice summary. quantim
I assume they are not under the same justice dept. watch like a lot of southern states. JD keeps shutting these laws down for them. Michigan and Indiana voter ID laws survived SCOTUS a few years ago, first in the nation. Only a matter time in red states, local levels. Virginia is on solid ground.
