Draggingtree
February 15, 1942: England Fails, Singapore Falls to Japan By: Raymond Callahan and Tomoyuki Ishizu | February15, 2013 Tags: Malaya, Singapore, WWII On February 15, 1942, the “impregnable” Singapore was surrendered into the hands of the Japanese, only 70 days after the start of the Malaya Campaign. This was a month less than General Hajime Sugiyama, the Chief of the General Staff of the Imperial Japanese Army, had predicted during the Imperial Conference on November 5, 1941. Since landing in southern Thailand and northern Malaya barely 55 days before, the Imperial Japanese Army had advanced some 1,100 kilometers to Johore, fighting 95 large and small engagements and repairing more than 250 bridges. To many commentators, the fall of Singapore marked one of the worst disasters and largest capitulations in British military history. http://www.commandposts.com/2013/02/february-15-1942-england-fails-singapore-falls-to-japan/ Focus On: WWII
