clearvision
CNN: President Obama will nominate his White House chief of staff, Jacob "Jack" Lew, to be the next U.S. Treasury Secretary, a source with knowledge of the nomination tells CNN. The nomination is expected to be announced this week. Lew, 57, has been the leading candidate for months and would be the second Treasury Secretary during the Obama administration. Lew has overseen budget talks in times of surplus and deficits as a former budget director for Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton. He was also a key player in the 2011 debt ceiling talks, where he earned some criticism from Republicans for his uncompromising attention to detail. Some Republicans have also been concerned about Lew's lack of business and financial markets experience.

clearvision
Republican senator: 'Jack Lew must never be secretary of Treasury' A key Republican has vowed to block the expected promotion of White House Chief of Staff Jacob "Jack" Lew, saying he "must never be secretary of Treasury." Lew is expected to be nominated for the treasury secretary job by the end of the week. A strongly worded statement by Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala. -- prepared in anticipation of that nomination and obtained by Fox News -- signals the bumpy ride Lew could face during the Senate confirmation process. Sessions, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, says Lew misled Congress about the White House's budget proposals and argues that should disqualify him from being put in charge of the government's finances. Draggingtree
Sessions: Lew must 'never' be Treasury secretary By Erik Wasson - 01/09/13 02:48 PM ET The top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee will oppose Jack Lew's nomination to be Treasury secretary. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) has prepared a statement saying "Jack Lew must never be Secretary of Treasury." He is not saying yet whether he will filibuster the nomination, however, which sources say President Obama will announce Thursday. Sessions expects that the Lew nomination will fail in the Senate, an aide said. The senator says Lew misrepresented Obama's 2012 budget by claiming that it did not add to the debt. "His testimony before the Senate Budget Committee less than two years ago was so outrageous and false that it alone disqualifies," according to the Sessions' statement, which was obtained by The Hill in Jack Lew is not that man," the Senator Sessions said http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/1007-other/276359-sessions-lew-must-never-be-treasury-secretary
