Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) Wednesday for finishing the congressional session without passing a multi-billion dollar aid package for communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

“There is only one group to blame, the House majority and John Boehner,” Christie said during a press conference. “Last night, the House majority failed the basic test of leadership and they did so with callous disregard to the people of my state. It was disappointing and disgusting to watch.”

“Shame on you, shame on Congress,” Christie said.

House and Senate Republicans have criticized the $60 billion aid package for containing excessive amounts of spending not related to the storm, including funding for Alaska fish hatcheries, harbor and dredging projects in St. Louis, and climate change studies.Scissors-32x32.png

Who Knew that Hurricane Sandy Struck Alaska and Wrecked AMTRAK?

Hurricane Sandy devastated the east coast at the end of October. A bill to send relief to those in the storm’s path still hasn’t passed Congress. The relief bill got loaded up with porkbarrel spending in the Senate, and then stalled. The Republicans really could have done a better job of naming and shaming the senators who larded up the Sandy relief bill. They released this list back in mid-December, but otherwise, the bill just sort of hung out there until Speaker Boehner decided to table it until the next congress gets sworn in. Even though that happens tomorrow, and a better relief bill may move quickly thereafter, Rep. Pete King and NJ Gov. Chris Christie are throwing a fit today — not at the Democrats, though, who larded up the bill. They’re mad at the Republicans for trying to be responsible with taxpayer money. Here’s some of the spending that King and Christie are defending.

So unless they past it as is, it would have to all be redone anyway as it had to go back to the senate and time was out for that.

More and more Christie is looking like the same self serving politician as usual. After the storm, he kissed up to O because he thought it would get him at the top of the help chain. How did that work out? Now, I believe he has an election in the future. Don't think the recovery has been going all the well. Blame it on someone else so it doesn't come back at him and blaming it on Republicans in a stae that generally votes Dem makes it even better.
