In 2008, Sen. John McCain’s campaign for President cut an ad that compared then-Sen. Obama to Paris Hilton, labeling him the biggest celebrity in the world. While the ad did little to increase McCain’s chances, four years later, it’s obvious there was something prescient about the comparison.

Since then, Obama the celebrity has eclipsed Obama the commander-in-chief. His presidential record is so dim, it begs the question: Has the President become just another celebrity? And, just as importantly, why don’t voters seem to care?

Most recently, on a day that our embassy in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked (which happened to be Sept. 11) and four Americans were murdered by terrorists there, one would think the President would immediately tend to the crisis in the Middle East, even if it was just for the imagery. Instead Obama flew to Las Vegas to campaign, where he made only perfunctory mention of the attack.

The week following the attack, when even more protests and riots had sparked in the region, Obama ventured to New York City for a fund-raiser with famed rapper Jay-Z and his wife, singer Beyoncé. The event, held at the popular club 40/40, featured a “champagne tower” of 350 bottles.

Then there’s his puzzling schedule choice for this week: Blowing off meeting requests from leaders of nations like Egypt, Libya and Israel — all countries that are fragile, to say the least, when it comes to their stability and/or state of relations with the U.S. Rather than discuss foreign policy with heads of state while he was in New York City for his annual speech at the United Nations, Obama chose to instead sit down with the ladies of the daytime chatfest “The View” — an unprecedented move for a President.
