The Wharves Board of Trustees, which governs the Port of Galveston, on Monday approved an agreement that would allow the Bounty to berth at Pier 21 from November to April. The wharves board also agreed to allow Port Director Mike Mierzwa and the port’s attorney to conduct negotiations necessary to complete the agreement, which isn’t finalized. Although the agreement would generate only about $450 a month in rent for the landlord port, the ship likely would bring hundreds of tourists to Pier 21 and downtown areas, filling restaurants and stores, port officials said. The Bounty was built as an ocean-faring vessel in 1960 by MGM Studios for “Mutiny on the Bounty,” starring Marlon Brando.
