Politics: Democrats have been playing the "fairness" card throughout the campaign, kept at it during last week's convention and will continue to hammer on it through the fall. Nice word. But what does it mean?

'Our platform calls for a balanced deficit reduction plan where the wealthy pay their fair share," Newark Mayor Cory Booker said in his Democratic National Convention speech.

A day later, Elizabeth Warren, Senate candidate in Massachusetts, said that no small business owners she's met try to avoid "paying their fair share of taxes."

The president himself capped off the convention saying he wants "to reform the tax code so that it's simple, fair, and asks the wealthiest households to pay higher taxes on incomes over $250,000."

More famously, Obama earlier said that, "All I'm saying is that those who have done well, including me, should pay their fair share in taxes."

It's a recurring theme. In fact, it appears to be an obsession. He prefers policies that produce "fairness" over those that bring prosperity and more federal revenue.

The Democrats have even tried legislation to enforce their sense of fairness. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., has introduced the Fairness in Taxation Act, which, she says, "asks the very rich to pay their fair share."Scissors-32x32.png

I think it was Medved (maybe Prager) that was talking about the myth of fairness when it is interpreted as the gap between rich and poor.

It is not the gap that matters, what matters is that ALL groups are growing in terms of income. Right now, ironically, only the rich are. And it is a result of Democrat policies trying to "get the rich."

Democrats deal with all of the social issues in the same manner. They are "pro-choice", as long as you choose as they would. They are all for freedom of speech, as long as your speech falls within their ideas of appropriate. They believe that everyone should have the American Dream, as long as they get to define that dream and control how it is achieved.
