Biscuits are an anytime food

Some foods have a specific time and place for their consumption that few of us will flout. Eating ice cream for breakfast just doesn’t happen, and oatmeal rarely graces the dinner table. Biscuits, on the other hand, make for happy diners at every meal.

 

With either butter or lard among their ingredients, biscuits are what Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster, now reformed and serving as a nutritional adviser, would call a “sometime food.” That sometime, however, can be breakfast, lunch or dinner.

 

It’s not hard to find old-school Southerners who would start the day with a breakfast of biscuits covered in sausage gravy,
