And you're right, @clearvision -- the podium did look like a wine barrel. biggrin.png

That's what got me thru it....!!!

Edit to add... not looking at it, but thinking of the almost barrel of wine needed to get thru both of these conventions.

Pretty good close. I thought the rest was average for him.

So Bill Clinton gets revenge, twice in the same week. Wednesday night was his and Thursday night, Obama didn't come off as well.

On the sixth day of the two conventions, their sole subject finally stood before us and said . . . well, pretty much what he’s been saying with little effect for two years now.

President Obama said it in the 2011 State of the Union. He said it in his “pass this jobs bill now” speech in that September. He said it in Owasatomie, Kan., in December, and again in the State of the Union in 2012.

He said he’s here to save the middle class, and he’s going to use government programs to do it, and we can best understand the nation’s generosity and greatness by making reference to the greatness of the government programs of the past.

Democrats’ Charlotte message

The Charlotte host committee knew its audience at the Democratic National Convention: “Government,” the narrator says in a video produced by the committee for the opening of the convention, “is the only thing we all belong to.”

The Obama campaign quickly disavowed the video. But it captured all that was to come.

The Charlotte Democrats are of, by and for government — especially when it is guaranteeing and facilitating access to abortion. Democrats apparently held the convention in the Time Warner Cable Arena only because the Planned Parenthood clinic down on Albemarle Road wasn’t available.

*Mr. Obama’s hazy agenda for a second term

9/6/12

“I WON’T PRETEND the path I’m offering is quick or easy,” President Obama said Thursday night in accepting the Democratic nomination for a second term. “I never have. You didn’t elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth.”

But as with Republicans in Tampa a week ago, the content of Mr. Obama’s remarks was short on those hard truths.

(Snip)

An acceptance speech is not a State of the Union laundry list of specific proposals. Its role is to set out a vision of the country’s future path. Mr. Obama was correct that he and Mr. Romney have dramatically different visions of government’s role, and that the Republican prescription of tax cuts to address any woe has left the country in terrible shape. Mr. Romney has been inexcusably vague in outlining his program, fiscal and otherwise, and he did nothing to mend this deficiency in his acceptance speech. But Mr. Obama’s speech also fell short — of his own proclaimed standards.

*Mr. Obama? I don't like Obama, but his title is President Obama!

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Hispanic Texas mayor whose keynote speech wowed the Democratic National Convention crowd Wednesday night draws political inspiration from his mother – who was a member of a radical civil rights movement and who reportedly thinks the truth behind the Battle of the Alamo is that Texans swiped Mexico’s land.

Maria del Rosario Castro, the mother of San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, said in 2010 that she grew up being told the battle was “glorious,” only to learn the so-called heroes were really “a bunch of drunks and crooks and slaveholding imperialists who conquered land that didn’t belong to them.”

“But as a little girl I got the message -- we were losers,” she told The New York Times Magazine. “I can truly say that I hate that place and everything it stands for.”

The Alamo, then a sprawling mission for missionaries and American Indian converts, was attacked in February 1836 by Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Though historical accounts vary, Texans, including famous frontiersman Davy Crockett, fought back for 13 days only to surrender, on March 6.

Maria del Rosario Castro also was a member of the La Raza Unida, a radical movement that defended the civil rights of Mexican-Americans in Texas.

The 37-year-old Hispanic mayor told New York Times Magazine that upon being elected mayor in 2009 he promptly hung in his private office a 1971 La Raza Unida City Council campaign poster that featured his mother.

Neither Castro nor his mother returned calls seeking comment.

Castro’s twin brother, Joaquin, is running for a Texas congressional seat this year.

Illegal Immigration Cheered at Democratic Convention; God Needs an Assist from Mayor Villaraigosa

September 6, 2012 By Ira Mehlman

One Wednesday evening during prime time, delegates to the Democratic National Convention were

demanding passage of the DREAM Act amnesty. Her appearance was enthusiastically cheered by the party faithful.

Benita Veliz, the young lady who spoke to the convention, was sympathetic enough. But the rousing applause was not really for her. It was a demonstration of the contempt that the Democratic leadership (as opposed to millions of rank and file Democrats around the country) hold for our immigration laws. To the Democratic Party machinery, illegal aliens are heroes and means by which they hope to transform the political, cultural and social fabric of the nation.

By contrast, God is not nearly as popular among the convention delegates. On Tuesday, delegates were asked to re-include mention of God in the party’s platform. References to God, which appeared in previous platforms, were omitted from this year’s document – a fact that party leaders belatedly realized would not play well with many voters.

The amendment, adding God to the platform, required a two-thirds approval from the delegates. When the convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, called for a voice vote, it was clear to everyone in the hall that the motion fell significantly

. Villaraigosa tried two more times, with similar results before he finally exercised his prerogative as chairman to declare Scissors-32x32.png read more

The DNC Was A Disaster For Obama

September 7, 2012 | Filed under 2012 Presidential Race,Barack Obama | Posted by Doug Johnson

Let me count the ways…

1 – His acceptance speech was more of the same. Erik Erickson at RedState sums it up best:

When you are in a tight race with your political opponent, you should not recycle a Jobs Act speech that failed to even persuade Democrats in Congress to pass your signature re-election initiative.

But that’s what Barack Obama did. A day after Bill Clinton brought the house down, Barack Obama took to the stage and reduced, reused, and recycled old states of the union speeches that have failed him for four years.

It was boring. It was unoriginal. And it was filled with promises when he hasn’t kept his past promises.

Things have changed since four years ago....

I'm not longer just a candidate.... I'm the President!

Well.

This is such a stupid statement it needs no discussion other than a barf.

"I'm not longer just a Socialist with a racist chip on my shoulder, anti-capitalism in my bones and married to a woman who resents America... I'm the President!"

Broken Promises

By Oliver North · September 7, 2012

WASHINGTON -- According to the pundits and politicians, this election is all about the economy. We're all supposed to know that -- because we're not stupid. That's why the Republicans had a "national debt clock" over their convention floor in Tampa, Fla., and the Democrats didn't have one in Charlotte, N.C.

To no one's surprise, the Dems didn't remind anyone in the Charlotte Convention Center that our national debt topped $16 trillion on the opening day of their conclave -- a 50 percent increase during the Obama presidency. The so-called mainstream media played along and focused instead on the change of venue for Barack Obama's outdoor acceptance speech from the 74,000-seat Bank of America Stadium -- echoing O-Team claims that the move was weather-related. Republicans said the change was precipitated by fears of empty seats.

It probably isn't fair to expect the potentates of the press to remind Americans that when he ran for president in 2008, Obama blasted President George W. Bush as "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic" for piling up $4 trillion in new debt during his eight years in office. When your children and grandchildren ask how all this could happen, you're supposed to tell 'em it's "Bush's fault." At that point, they may really want to push Grandma off a cliff.

As we heard from so many speakers in Charlotte, it's also Bush's fault that Obama's 2009 promise Scissors-32x32.png read more http://patriotpost.us/opinion/14667

Ten winners and ten losers at the Democratic National Convention

Posted on 09/07/2012 by Richard Dunham

The speeches are over. The confetti has been swept off the arena floor. And delegates dazed by a week of speeches (and partying) are headed home.

Here are ten winners — and ten losers — at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte:

WINNERS

Bill Clinton

He gave the best speech at either convention. The 42nd president, more popular than ever in the polls, reminded people of the differences between the parties. He reminded people why he was twice elected president. Great speech. But was it too good? Did he overshadow Barack Obama?

Julian Castro

A star is born. The San Antonio mayor made a dynamic debut on the national stage. He may not have wowed the world like Illinois state Sen. Obama did at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, but he became an instant sensation. He even got an instant celebrity impersonator, Jimmy Fallon.

Gabby Giffords

An American hero. The former Arizona congressman brought delegates to tears (literally, as Joe Biden would say) with her simple recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Her voice was strong. Her trademark smile was evident. And she insisted on walking on her own. Her brave comeback from assassination attempt is an all-American profile in courage.

Michelle Obama

The first lady has become a first-rate public speaker. Her Monday night address to the convention was better than her husband’s Thursday acceptance speech. She made the case for Barack Obama as a caring human being. Very effectively.

Democrats Said to End Convention $15 Million Short

Hans Nichols

Sept. 7, 2012

Democrats ended their convention in Charlotte $5 million short of their budget even after being forced to draw down a $10 million line of credit from Duke Energy Corp. (DUK), according to a Democratic Party fundraiser.

That will leave a $15 million bill that eventually will have to be paid by President Barack Obama’s campaign or the Democratic National Committee, according to the fundraiser, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The Charlotte Host Committee ended the convention with more than $5 million in immediate obligations and may require a direct cash infusion from the Obama campaign to pay vendors, said the fundraiser.

DNC 2012: Our neurotic and narcissistic president speaks

Friday, September 7, 2012 by Rich Stowell

SALT LAKE CITY, September 7, 2012—President Obama is unfit for office according to all sorts of practical criteria.

As Hugh Hewitt puts it in his column, "America does not need four more years of an in-over-his-head whiner; a petulant egomaniac who does not seem to understand the most basic of economic principles and who is a lousy negotiator to boot."

Our commander in chief has demonstrated time and again that he cannot work with opposition, that he is unable to see issues from others' point of view, and he has failed to think outside of the tiny and highly constrained liberal box vis a vis the big problems of our nation.

Atop all of that, he displays classic neurotic and narcissistic tendencies.

According to academics, neurotics approach conflict in unhealthy ways: "they rely on direct and indirect fighting," they" perceive their social situation negatively" causing them to distrust others, and when confronted, they "act defensive, use guilt-inducements, and leave the scene in a 'hit and run' manner."

While a neurotic president is dangerous enough, Scissors-32x32.png
