The 'Housewife' Media Are Desperate To Muzzle

Media Bias: Four years ago, the major media gleefully showed off Michelle Obama as her husband's "secret weapon." Now they refuse to broadcast Ann Romney because it would soften their version of who Mitt Romney is.

London's Daily Telegraph cooed in 2008 of Michelle Obama that "she combines the poise of Jackie Kennedy with the brain of Hillary Clinton and the uncomplicated charm of Laura Bush."

CBS News' Dean Reynolds swooned that "Michelle Obama is a natural. In big stadiums or small rooms, she has set aside any qualms she may have had and jumped into the fray." In Reynolds' judgment, "Mrs. Obama can talk issues, and couples that with some world-class hugging skills ... and that's why they call her 'The Closer.'"

Four years later, the Romney campaign is practically begging CBS, NBC and ABC to reconsider their decision not to broadcast Ann Romney's convention speech, in which she will counteract the cold, mean capitalist caricature the press and Democrats have fashioned of her husband.

Wives' convention addresses can be important. After Tipper Gore in 2000 "spoke so eloquently," according to her husband, Al Gore kissed her passionately on stage in an attempt to humanize his robotic public image.
