Since he stepped down as Ronald Reagan’s first budget director, David Stockman has become a dream come true for Democrats, denouncing Wall Street, big banks and “crony capitalism.” Atlantic magazine calls him the “Democrats favourite Reaganite.” Stockman was at it again this week, with an op-ed piece in the New York Times eviscerating the budget proposal championed by Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan. The former congressman takes no prisoners, accusing his former party of “30 years of apostasy” in betraying the Reagan agenda and embracing both “the welfare state” and “the warfare state.
