Jake Smikes June 22, 2012 8:29 am Does it seem like your alleged “Conservative” Congressman is repeatedly voting with Democrats? Has he or she been seen toiling with Democrats on the golf course? The folks at the Madison Project have noticed too and put together a chart that debunks the myth that the only Republicans that cross the isle are forced to do so due to the nature of their swing district. Granted, some Republicans must stay moderate in certain areas, but we shouldn’t worry about those members; the members who represent super conservative areas but don’t act like it are bothersome. The Madison Project performed very straightforward research to answer this conundrum: they took the Cook measurement, which quantifies the political leanings of a district, compared it to the voting records of Congressional members, and found an upsetting list of Republican Congressman from firm Republican districts who vote liberal consistently. The Madison Project calls their list – The Hall of Shame. The list provides ammunition to the TEA party members who constantly rant about the lack of conservative fortitude exemplified by Congressional members. The Madison Project’s limited government stance is the main foundation for the report, so some calculations might be a bit skewed, but several congressional representatives have some ‘splanin to do in regards to their voting record. Especially, Frank Lucas of Oklahoma and Michael Simpson of Idaho whose districts are R+24 and R+17 respectively, but are members of the Hall of Shame. Examine the list for your Congressman.
