We are not asking for a national holiday. We are not arguing for a paid day off. We’re talking about a day of observance, similar to Flag Day. On such days, Americans are urged to think about something important to us all. Juneteenth began in Galveston, Texas, but it is not just a Galveston story or a Texas story.
