Obama Carolina Convention Plans Going Awry for Democrats

obama-carolina-convention-plans-going-awry-for-democrats.htmlBloomberg:

President Barack Obama’s decision in February 2011 to hold the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina looked like a bold move to reclaim a state he’d won in 2008. Today, it’s more like an awkward fit.

The state’s Democratic Party is mired in a sexual harassment scandal. Voters just approved a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, which conflicts with Obama’s view on the issue. Convention fundraising has been slow, and labor unions tapped to fill the financial gap are angry the convention will be in a city -- Charlotte -- with no unionized hotels and in a state where compulsory union membership or the payment of dues is prohibited as an employment condition.

North Carolina’s 9.7 percent unemployment rate is above the national average and one of the host city’s top employers --Bank of America (BAC) -- has announced job reductions. Obama is scheduled to accept his party’s nomination at Bank of America Stadium in September.

“It’s inconceivable that they would move the convention,” said Don Kettl, dean of the school of public policy at the University of Maryland. “But they may wish that they had placed their chips on another swing state.”

North Carolina is one of about a dozen states that Democratic and Republican strategists say are likely to determine the outcome of the presidential election.

This is delicious after disgraced DEM Gov. Bev Perdue's recent comment that NC was like Mississippi with the marriage vote.

I don't think holding the convention in Charlotte will help Barry march through the South like Sherman.

On top of this and other scandals, Republican. Gov. nominee Pat McCrory is now running some great ads against Perdue's current Lt. who is the DEM nominee. The ads tie him to Perdue's scandals as well as the overall DEM agenda and Obama.

Meanwhile the press is full of the John Edwards trial and filth in Winston Salem now.... And to top it off McCrory was the popular mayor of Charlotte for 10 years.

Patrick Lloyd "Pat" McCrory (born October 17, 1956) is an American politician and businessman. He was the 53rd Mayor of Charlotte from 1995 to 2009, and is a candidate for Governor of North Carolina in 2012.

Both the city of Charlotte and McCrory gained national prominence during his tenure as mayor. By the 1990's Charlotte emerged as a symbol of the New South by becoming a hub of transportation, banking, manufacturing, energy and tourism. McCrory implemented transportation and land use plans that have been seen nationally as templates for other municipalities. He received a presidential appointment to serve on the United States Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) from 2003-2006.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Banner headline on Drudge now.....

POLL: NORTH CAROLINA: ROMNEY 51%, OBAMA 43%

Mitt Romney has moved out to an eight-point lead over President Obama in North Carolina after the two men were virtually tied a month ago.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Tar Heel State shows the putative Republican nominee earning 51% of the vote to Obama’s 43%. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

WVAREb's "Bloomberg" article reminded me to say that just last weekend NYCity Mayor Michael Bloomberg was the UNC Chapel Hill commencement speaker . He informed all those 1000s of young skulls full of liberal academia mush (as Rush might say) that the gay marriage vote shows "there is still a lot of work to be done for civil rights in this country."

A.P. reports:

"Bloomberg told them Americans have slowly understood since this country was founded that if the government can deny freedom to one person, it can deny freedom to everyone. The mayor says every generation has brought more freedom to this country, and he expects the latest generation to continue the work, especially after last Tuesday's vote approving a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in North Carolina."

How interesting. Quite an exposé
