The Jews of the Old Testament likewise warn of the folly of hauteur.:

Pride goeth before destruction,

and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18

A well credentialed scholar seems to have forgotten this, while a man referred to by the left as a “village idiot” was quite clear on the concept.

Hubris: Extreme pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one’s own competence or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.
