CBS News Philly:

Nutter Fumes After 3 Philadelphia Teens Killed In Apparent Reprisal Shooting

By Mike Dunn

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Following a shooting Tuesday night in the Juniata section of the city that left three teens dead (see related story), Mayor Michael Nutter had strong words for the shooter, calling him “a dog.”

The outraged mayor also had strong words for the parents of Philadelphia’s youth, telling them “not to act like idiots and a–holes.”

While Nutter says he is gratified about the quick arrest in the multiple shooting, he is fuming that the victims were out on Tuesday night apparently looking for trouble. And he blames their parents.

“Seven young people, somewhere between 14 and 16 years old, on a Tuesday night, a school night, are out in a car going to somewhere to have a fight with some other teenager. That is completely insane, it is irresponsible. Parents have to know where their children are and what they are doing,” the mayor said.

“Their little butts should have either been in bed, getting ready for bed, or doing some homework,” Nutter added. “Not out in a car, not in some other neighborhood, and not up to this kind of nonsense. I’m not your mom and I’m not your dad. We cannot completely legislate, or by policy, make people responsible for their children.”snip

I wondered how he would be as a mayor. Still don't really follow all that he does in Philly. But the guy really speaks his mind without any worry as to what the knuckle draggers think. Surprised the liberal press hasn't torn him a new one.

Sadly and horribly tragic the Mayor's calling for parents to take responsibility for their kids crosses all of the o's classes of parents.

Last Saturday night a 17 year old driver going 75 on a short very curvy and hilly 30mph residential street that feeds into our neighborhood crashed his SUV into a tree.

The driver is 17. He survived.

The passenger was a 16 year old Junior at the nearby High School whom he was taking home.

She died instantly.

It was 2 o'clock in the morning.

An open bottle of alcohol was on the seat.

Marijuana was found in the SUV.

Blogs report he had a drug problem and a prior conviction pending for stealing bikes from a neighbor in his area.

Details go on and are horrible and we immediately have all these questions and opinions but bottom line is we all who are or have been or will be parents of teenagers recognize "there but for the grace of God"

Yet a published comment from a "mother of teens" after one of the news articles kinda focused the problem our society faces today. According to her they were just "kids". Their judgment had not developed yet. That is why they are "called children". Yada, yada.

Excuses, no responsibility, no hard look at any of the illegal and irresponsible and just plain wrong facts of the various situations involved just excuses and nice words - pandering platitudes.

Meanwhile a young daughter is dead and a young son might have been better off dead with his life ruined forever - all his own doing.
