CBS News:

Anti-Wall Street protesters around the U.S. who are vowing to stand their ground against the police and politicians are also digging in against a different kind of adversary: cold weather.

With the temperature dropping, they are stockpiling donated coats, blankets and scarves, trying to secure cots and military-grade tents, and getting survival tips from the homeless people who have joined their encampments.

"Everyone's been calling it our Valley Forge moment," said Michael McCarthy, a former Navy medic in Providence. "Everybody thought that George Washington couldn't possibly survive in the Northeast." Valley Forge in Pennsylvania was the site of the Continental Army's winter camp during the Revolutionary War. :snip:

But the dangers of staying outdoors in some of the country's harsher climes are already becoming apparent: In Denver, two protesters were hospitalized with hypothermia this week during a storm that brought several inches of snow.

The activists also know full well that the number of demonstrators is likely to drop as the weather gets colder.

Some movements are scouting locations indoors, including vacant buildings or other unused properties, possibly even foreclosed homes, though some question the wisdom of holding a protest outside the public eye.

Lighting campfires is probably out of the question in most places because of safety regulations. :snip:

Think the media will want to be outside to cover this stuff?

Forecast for northeast this weekend (tee-hee):

The bulk of the storm just north and west of I-95 will be wet snow, but even in cities from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore to Wilmington, Del., Philadelphia, Trenton, N.J., New York City, Providence, R.I. and Boston, rain will become mixed with or change over completely to wet snow.

Big snowstorm headed for northeast this weekend

shoutclearvision -- the same members of the media who stand in hurricane force winds trying to keep their balance will be there even in the snow because they like drama and the illusion of doing their job no matter what the hardship might be.

Anti-Wall Street protesters' plans to camp in a New York park throughout the city's harsh winter were dealt a blow on Friday when the fire department confiscated generators and fuel because they posed a danger.

With the first snow forecast to fall on Saturday, the Occupy Wall Street movement against economic inequality lost the generators that had been powering heat, computers and a kitchen in the Lower Manhattan camp they set up six weeks ago.

Too bad. So sad. I guess they are a little closer to Washington's ordeal without generators.

Nearly 1.5 million lose power in East Coast snow

..PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The unusually early snowstorm bringing heavy, wet snow to the East Coast has knocked out power to more than 1.4 million customers.

Half a million are without power in New Jersey, including Gov. Chris Christie, who declared a state of emergency.

Utilities in Pennsylvania say 428,000 customers have lost power. PPL spokeswoman Lissette Santana said Saturday that 200 crews were working to restore it. The company serves northeast and central Pennsylvania.

More than 160,000 customers lost power in Philadelphia and its suburbs.

In New York, about 88,000 have lost power. In Connecticut, utilities reported more than 370,000 without service.

And spokesman Todd Meyers says Potomac Edison had more than 26,000 outages in western Maryland.

About 19,000 had lost power in Massachusetts.

Don't these places have lots of snow all the time? Why so many without power? Maybe trees still have leaves so fall over powerlines?

Bingo. Trees with leaves and heavy, sticky wet snow. My sister up in Jersey said her favorite Dogwood was literally crushed.

As far as the unclean occupiers, I'm looking forward to see what their numbers. :)

"This is what hypothermia looks like!" :D
