House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Thursday named three veteran Democratic lawmakers to a so-called “super committee” created to find ways to trim the federal deficit by more than $1 trillion by the end of the year.

Pelosi, D-Calif., tapped House Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn of South Carolina, Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Xavier Becerra of California and Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, to the 12-member panel.
