Fox News:

LONDON – Two police cars were set on fire late Saturday as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of north London to protest the fatal shooting of a young father by police.

Trouble flared after a crowd of around 300 gathered in the Tottenham area, with some hurling missiles and smashing shop windows as the unrest threatened to spiral into a riot.

It followed a march, involving around 120 people, from the Broadwater Farm area to Tottenham police station demanding "justice" for the shot man named locally as Mark Duggan.

The black father-of-four, 29, died Thursday, allegedly after he exchanged fire with police officers.

Shortly after dark Saturday evening, two police cars parked around 200 yards (180 meters) from the police station were set upon.

Officers have been dispatched to disperse the crowd, a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police said.

He could not confirm that those responsible for the trouble were connected to the protest.

I will be following this one. Since only one in five police officers in England carry firearms, it is unusual to hear of a shooting incident involving them. More unusual to be involved in an "exchange" of gunfire, since guns are all but banned there.

London riots: Timeline of violence

18:15 BST - Mark Duggan, 29, is shot dead by police at Ferry Lane, Tottenham.

The death occurs during an operation where specialist firearm officers and officers from Operation Trident, the unit which deals with gun crime in the African and Caribbean communities, are attempting to carry out an arrest.

Mr Duggan is a passenger in a minicab and is shot after an apparent exchange of fire. A police officer's radio is later found to have a bullet lodged in it.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) announces it will investigate the incident and later says it believes two shots were fired by police. It also confirms that an illegal firearm was recovered from the scene.
