Fox News:

DURHAM, N.C-- Four people have been found shot to death along a highway in a North Carolina business research park.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office says the bodies of three women were found early Saturday in a car on N.C. Highway 54 in Research Triangle Park, while the body of a man was outside the car. Lt. Stan Harris says the shootings weren't random, but he said he couldn't disclose any other details.

The News and Observer now says:

Deputies found the bodies three minutes past midnight after responding to a report of gunshots, Harris said. The three women were inside a green Honda Accord parked along N.C. 54 between Park Office Drive and the bridge over the Durham Freeway, he said.

The man was outside of the car. All were dead with gunshot wounds.

Evidence at the scene indicates that the shootings were not random, according to a statement the sheriff’s department released Saturday morning.

Investigators ask anyone who might have been in the area and seen anything unusual between 11 p.m. and midnight to contact them at 560-0880.

Witnesses would typically be few at that time of night in RTP, a 7,000-acre spread that is packed with research and development firms, such as IBM, GSK and Cisco. Many of the office buildings in the area immediately around the scene of the shootings are vacant, and there are no homes or apartments there.

A strip of yellow tape along the highway appeared to be only indication of the crime during daylight hours Saturday.

The Sheriff's office doesn't plan to release any additional information about the shooting until Monday morning. They are awaiting additional information from the medical examiner's office, which is closed Sunday, Harris said.

While investigators can use their experience to make conclusions about what occurred, they still need to investigate, conduct interviews, evaluate the evidence and tie up lose ends, he said.

"Four people are dead, and we really want to be thorough," he said.

Regardless, residents don't need to be concerned about their safety.

"I feel good in saying everything we need is right there at the scene," he said....
