Anthony Weiner: Hackers posted lewd photos on Twitte

Politico:

Rep. Anthony Weiner says social networking identity hacking is to blame for the lewd material that a conservative news website reported was sent from his Twitter and yfrog handles to an unidentified woman from Seattle, Washington.

The New York Democrat told POLITICO he thought it “obvious” that his account had been taken over, and he tweeted that his Facebook account had been hacked with the abbreviation “FB hacked.”

A photo of a man’s bulging gray boxer-brief underwear was posted to Weiner’s account with yfrog — an online image-sharing site — on Saturday night, according to biggovernment.com, which is run by Andrew Breitbart. The photograph is from the waist down, and shows no face.

“The weiner gags never get old, I guess, ” the veteran lawmaker emailed a POLITICO reporter in response on Saturday.

“This evening a photo surfaced on Congressman Weiner’s yfrog account and in his verified Twitter timeline of a man in his underwear with an erection,” Publius, the handle for the site’s editors wrote. “The photo was reportedly sent to a woman on Twitter. We’ve protected her name and her account, which was at one time verified to be active but has since been deleted after the photo in question was deleted. Coincidentally, the rest of the photos in the congressman’s alleged yfrog account were also deleted around 11 p.m. eastern.”snip

WeinerGate: MSM Ignores Trifecta of Sex, Politics, and a Rising Political Star

With the exception of Jonathan Allen and Ben Smith of Politico, who both deserve credit for covering the Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) story we broke here at the Bigs on Friday night, the mainstream media’s silence on this objectively important story has been deafening. And now that 24 hours have passed since the story originally broke, there’s simply no way to blame the MSM’s lack of interest on the holiday weekend.

After all, this isn’t just any story. Regardless of how it all eventually breaks, what we have here is either the story of a high profile, recently married New York Congressman who’s seriously considering a Mayoral run in Manhattan, tweeting his “junk” to a young woman two decades his junior — and lying to the media about it. Or we have a story involving a high-profile Congressman’s Facebook and Twitter account being hacked with pornographic pictures.

So ask yourself: how does the MSM justify all but ignoring something so juicy? And then if you’re still not convinced of the story’s newsworthiness, remind yourself that these events are not unfolding in one of those odd, square-shaped states our journalist-class fly over every once in a while. This is a New York story that involves the trifecta of politics, sex, and a rising political star. Furthermore, the icing on the cake is Bill and Hillary Clinton. Last July, in a ceremony officiated by former President Clinton himself, Rep. Weiner married Hillary’s top aide, Huma Abedin.

Anthony may claim hacking but it is an unusual coincidink He has 40K+ following him and he follows less than 200.

Which means he can privately mail the two hundred and vice versa. And the person who was hacked is one of the 200 he follows.

Revealed: The glamorous Twitter girls followed by Congressman Weiner as he denies sending lewd picture

snip"Anthony Weiner has almost 50,000 fans on the social networking site, but he has chosen to follow just 198 in return - many of whom are attractive young females, and include a porn star, 'Miss Ginger Lee'."

Pepper, when this started, he was only following 91. That makes it an even bigger coincidence.

Not only that, as of my last check on this, the police had not been called and the photo in question WAS on the congressman's account.

I believe it was accidentally posted publicly because long messages are split into two texts from ones cell phone. (One of Big Gov's sites explained this and it seems logical.) My suspicion is that it was meant for the girl in question, but accidentally got posted publicly.

No laws were broken...but what I can't figure out is why ANYONE has photos of themselves in compromising situations, especially if you are a public figure. Simple caveat: Don't be a perv and photograph yourself. Sheesh!

Hi, pollyannish!

You're right. Following 91 makes it more so.

Nice ploy of the media, covering for him at first. But things might break.

Weiner Can’t Rule Out That Twitter Photo Is of Him

snipRUSSERT: That’s not a picture of you?

REP. WEINER: You know, I can’t say with certitude. My system was hacked. Pictures can be manipulated, pictures can be dropped in and inserted. One of the reasons that I’ve asked a firm that includes an internet security arm is to take a look into what the heck happened here to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But let’s kind of keep in mind why this is so silly. You know, someone committed a prank on me. Someone somehow got access to my twitter account, and right away put up a picture that made fun of the name Weiner and that’s what happened.

RUSSERT: But Congressman, you would remember if you were to take a photograph of yourself like that.

He voted to raise the debt limit. Hopefully we can continue keep him distracted from his job.

How can you take someone seriously that believes that we mere mortals think someone can't recognize their own package? It was probably the shooter on the hill that took the shot, and fired it off.

Weiner: It’s Possible Lewd Photo Is of Him

Rep. Anthony Weiner, embroiled in a bizarre controversy over a lewd photo of a man’s crotch sent to a young woman from his Twitter account, said Wednesday it’s possible the photo is of him – though he insisted he didn’t send it.

Associated Press

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.)

A day earlier, the New York Democrat and potential New York City mayoral candidate had sought to end the embarrassing episode by refusing to discuss it, at one point angrily calling one reporter a “jackass.’’

On Wednesday, he reversed course and spoke to NBC’s Luke Russert. He was expected to speak with CNN later in the day. The video is here.

“I was the victim of a prank,’’ Mr. Weiner told NBC, adding that he can’t say “with certitude’’ whether the photo shows his body.

The photo was sent Friday to the woman in such a way that the tens of thousands of Mr. Weiner’s Twitter followers could also see it.

The 46-year-old married New York congressman had initially said he’d hired a lawyer to counsel him on the matter, but in Wednesday’s interview he said he’d retained a private security firm.

Mr. Weiner has not asked law enforcement agencies to investigate, raising questions from conservative skeptics about his claims of innocence.

“This is not a national security matter. We are not making a federal case out of this and I don’t think anyone else should,’’ he said.

There is absolutely no reason a grown up adult congressman should have a photo of ANY kind of lewd conduct on his phone. And he wasn't hacked, he screwed up and got caught.

I would say its pretty much over for him at this point.

I agree with everything except the last bit. He IS a dimocrat, after all, and they take some perverse pleasure in "rehabilitating" dims. A republican, once caught at anything, is "bad" forever.

A great couple of comments from the WaPo.

Washington Post

snipMost puzzling to many veterans of Washington imbroglios is why Weiner would not clarify whether he is indeed the person in the photo, which is presumably something he would have a pretty good idea about.

His answer ranks “somewhere below ‘no controlling legal authority’ and above ‘wide stance,’ ” said Democratic crisis-management specialist Chris Lehane.

Lehane was referring first to the infamous phrase that Vice President Al Gore used in 1997 to describe questionable fundraising activities, and then the one that then-Sen. Larry E. Craig (R-Idaho) used in 2007 to explain how he came to be arrested for lewd conduct after tapping the foot of an undercover officer in a restroom stall in the Minneapolis airport.snip

Hey Anthony... sounds like it's time to hop into your vehicle and head for the hills.

From interviews I've seen with Breitbart, one of the things he seems to want to illustrate is what it is like when the shoe is on the other foot so to speak. He wants to use THEIR tactics on them.

If this was a Republican, it would be all GOPer all the time. I think he is using this to prove the point. If that is not what he is doing, it is WAY out of proportion.

I don't think he's making up this story, but to hear Weiner squeal and squirm is fun.

Breitbart wouldn't haven't posted this if he didn't have a smoking gun up his sleave, and Weiner's abrasive and hostile responses to FNC, and the rest of the LSM, sound more like "I did not have sex, with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" than they do to Oswald's claim he was a patsy.

Weiner's Penis Photo Dispute To Be Settled In Small Claims Court(Sarc)

Ann Coulter

Sometimes I wonder if Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is too nice for his own good.

An evil swine hacks into Weiner's Twitter account and posts an embarrassing photo of spindly legs topped by a small erect penis draped in dingy gray briefs no male over the age of 11 would wear -- and Anthony just wants to forget the whole thing!

Instead of angrily demanding an investigation like anyone else would, Anthony has gone all St. Francis of Assisi on us.

He doesn't want an investigation! How big-hearted is that? Talk about a forgiving nature! He's almost too magnanimous. I wish I had that kind of forbearance.

Maybe he's ready to live and let live, but speaking as one of Anthony's biggest Twitter followers, I am not. Otherwise, Weiner's hacker is just going to go out and hack and hack again.

So while I admire Anthony's selfless refusal to be "distracted" by this issue, I would urge him to reconsider.

Only a full and complete investigation will show that he had absolutely nothing to do with that humiliating photo of the tiny stub of a male organ sent to a 21-year-old coed from his Twitter address last Friday night.

Anthony needs to remember that hacking is a serious crime. In fact, there probably will have to be a federal investigation whether or not our gentle Anthony requests one.

Another example of Anthony's amazing forbearance is how he has not retaliated against CNN for its malicious editing of Weiner's press conference on Tuesday.

CNN obviously sabotaged the tape to make it look as if he was refusing to answer the simplest, most direct questions. (I confess I did not see the entire conference live; I was too busy sending private messages to the hundreds of college coeds I follow on Twitter, just like Anthony.)

Through sheer trickery, CNN made it appear as if Anthony kept lurching back to the same irrelevant story about a heckler in an audience of 45,000 people.

Anyone could see there was something off about the video because no matter what reporters asked him, CNN kept looping back to that clip of Anthony telling his long, pointless parable about a heckler in an audience and how he'd respond and then demanding that he be allowed to finish, when he obviously had already finished.snip

Weiner is screwed either way. The only thing he does have going for him is that he's a RAT(we all know he'd already be run out of office if he was a Pubbie), but he can most likely say "Byebye!" to any dreams he had of becoming mayor of NYC...

I guess you could say he was hoisted by his own, um, Wiener.

I wouldn't think this was nearly so funny, but this wiener guy is a condescending, contemptuous, and obnoxious. And, in addition to his name, his actions have made the whole thing beyond funny.

Weiner's Week

Rep. Anthony Weiner finally called the police Thursday -- but not to investigate the hackers who the New York Democrat claims hijacked his Twitter account to send a lewd photo to a coed last week. Instead, Weiner's staff sicced Capitol Police on Marcia Kramer, a reporter for New York's WCBS-TV who showed up in the Brooklyn congressman's D.C. office and tried to get an interview. "All I want is for him to say something to his constituents, the people who have to vote for him," Kramer told Weiner's press secretary, who responded by saying that his boss had done all the interviews he intended to do about the so-called "WeinerGate" scandal.

Kramer managed to talk her way out of being arrested, but her experience Thursday in some sense symbolized Weiner's problem: Every time he talks to reporters about last Friday's incident, he digs himself a little bit deeper into a hole of implausibility. Even his staunchest political allies can see that Weiner is lying -- or at least trying to hide some guilty secret -- and so he finds himself increasingly at sword's point with the media, which has gone into feeding-frenzy mode at the irresistible scent of an apparent cover-up. This is intensely ironic, given that the seven-term Democrat has long been one of the liberal media's favorite members of Congress.

For the benefit of readers who perhaps don't have a TV and who today logged onto the Internet for the first time, a brief recap: Late last Friday night, on the online social networking site Twitter, a message from Weiner's account (@RepWeiner) was sent to the attention of a 21-year-old college student. The only content of that tweet (as Twitter messages are called) was a link to a digital photo of a man in gray underpants, shown only from the waist down, whose turgid phallus was bulging quite prominently. Within minutes, the offensive tweet was deleted, although not before being seen and copied by several of the congressman's more than 40,000 Twitter followers. Weiner quickly claimed that he was the victim of computer hackers, but the incident was reported as a news story at Andrew Breitbart's BigGovernment.com site, and by Saturday afternoon had become a major topic of conversation among bloggers. The intended recipient of the crotch-shot tweet was Gennette Cordova, a student at a community college in Bellingham, Washington. Ms. Cordova issued a statement Sunday evening to the New York Daily News in which she denied being Weiner's mistress. (Weiner is married to a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.) Ms. Cordova said she had never met the congressman, and explained that her claim on Twitter of being his "girlfriend" was meant as a joke.snip

If that isn't an admission of guilt, I don't know what is. My leftish friends have all turned on him at this point for being a real creeper. So I'd say his "up and coming career" has stalled out.

Once again, it was doing something wrong and then TRYING DESPERATELY to pretend like he didn't that got him. The coverup is almost always worse than the crime. Although in this case trying to cover up not covering up was the crime. But whatever.
