White House 2012:

2/26/11

At a Phoenix summit organized by TEA Party Patriots, normally mild mannered former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty rallied TEA Patry voters to ‘Rise up’ against the current conditions in Washington. “The Constitution wasn’t written to limit freedom, it was written to limit government.” “Now it appears President Obama has forgotten what it says. It says in here ‘in order to form a more perfect union.’ Mr. President that does not mean coddling out of control public employee unions. And Mr. President, Wisconsin does not need a lecture from someone who has never balanced a budget in his life.”

He called on Washington to oppose raising the debt ceiling and passing a constitutional amendment that requires a balanced budget. He blasted the “royal triangle of greed: big government, big unions and big bailed out businesses.” The biggest cheers erupted as Pawlenty railed against judges that legislate from the bench and “Obamacare,” the president’s overhaul of the health care system.

The 15 minute speech was a big step for the little known Pawlenty in getting his name out on a national stage as the potential candidates are vying for the support of the conservative activist TEA Party. Known for his mild mannered nature, Pawlenty showed an aggressive side while addressing the large crowd. “The message of the tea party, as I see it, is pretty simple, it’s pretty straight forward,” Pawlenty said to loud cheers. “And it’s this: God made us to be free and the founding fathers made the constitution to keep us free.”
