WestVirginiaRebel
ABC The Note:ABC News Jonathan Karl reports:The newfound civility didn’t last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesn’t get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.“They say it's a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels," Cohen said. "You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That's the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didn’t stop there.“The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it--believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover," Cohen said.Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.________Let's hear it for "civility!" Casino67
Anderson Cooper ripped Cohen tonight, but Cohen wouldn't backtrack on what he said. I was surprised at how hard AC went after him.
pollyannaish
Anderson Cooper ripped Cohen tonight, but Cohen wouldn't backtrack on what he said. I was surprised at how hard AC went after him. Poor Anderson. He's been apologizing all over the place for his guests.

AceRimmer
Well the RATS didn't waste any time replacing Al Grayson as their poster child for intolerance in the House. Where does Nancy find these lemmings?
Argyle58
Even the liberal twit on Hannity's panel last night blasted Cohen. Not so much that he offended Republicans, but his remarks "trivialized the Holocaust and the history of the Jewish people". Of course, I think all of us knew that the Right was supposed to become more civil, the left never does. Go to HuffPo and remind posters of their cries for civility and watch their reaction. SrWoodchuck
Cohen is the first Jewish representative for this Tennessee constituency; which is majority black.[Harold Ford, Jr.'s area] He is single & prior to being a state senator; was listed as a,"money-changer" & shoe-maker. He fought hard as a state senator, against the Tennessee Defense of Marriage Act. IMO- He has to show support for his Democratic constituency, in an aggressive manner, to be percieved as worthy of his majority black area; but since being white, doesn't have the basis for using race [which is losing cachet anyway, from overuse.] That means he's got to use his psuedo-ethnic Jewish identity to have credentials to smear Republicans. In practice, he's less "Jewish" than Ron Emmanuel; but alike, in that politics is his religion. How else, other than complete idiocy, would he want to use Goebbels & the Nazi Holocaust; causing a furor among practicing Jews, Republicans & most right thinking people. Nazi = National Socialist. Edited for spelling & just for the heck of it..... Edited January 20, 2011 by SrWoodchuck
Casino67
Cohen is currently talking on the Ed Schultz show. Still seems to be saying nothing wrong with what he said. Ed of course is defending him. He is now sorry if he offended anyone. Said he won't do it again, he learned his lesson.
