Valin
Townhall:Hugh Hewitt12/17/10On Thursday's program I interviewed a man I greatly admire but with whom I have a significant disagreement about the tax deal making its way through the Congress: Senator Orrin Hatch. The transcript of our conversation is here, as are interview transcripts with numerous other members of the Congress conducted over the past two weeks. The divide in the GOP is deep and, while largely unreported, it will have consequences far more profound for the party than the divide among Democrats that has gotten most of the attention since President Obama announced the "compromise" on Monday, December 6.The divide among conservatives is mirrored in the split among likely GOP presidential candidates. Evad
When you look at the divisions in the GOP, you have to think differently when analyzing the Senate vs the House. The GOP Senate is actually divided 3 ways: 1--old RINOs 2--a centrist group that is somewhat akin to W's politics 3--and the new thinkers called TEA party people. The centrist group is still the majority of the GOP but they are going to have to deal with the TEA party influence. In the House, the upstarts have a lot more influence because the House turns over every 2 years. This is where the TEA party will makes it's influence most felt with Boehner leading the charge.
