The Hill:

Obama calls for 'fundamental overhaul' to U.S. infrastructure
By Jordan Fabian - 10/11/10 11:56 AM ET
President Obama on Monday called for a "fundamental overhaul" to the nation's infrastructure that involves a $50 billion investment in roads, bridges, railways and electric grids he says are "woefully" inadequate.

The president's comments came after a meeting with Cabinet officials, governors and mayors where officials discussed a new government report on infrastructure that argues a significant improvement effort could help create jobs and boost economic output.

Obama proposed a six-year plan that would rebuild and modernize hundreds of thousands of miles of roads, bridges and rail lines as well as overhauling the way the government funds infrastructure projects.snip

Why borrow 'new' money when so much is still left in the 'Stimulus' funds?

Excellent question unless the Democrats are saving it for a gigantic Democratic re election slush fund. Our infrastructure problems do need to be addressed but not by this administration who has never heard of living on a budget.

Budget? They couldn't even pass a budget for this year. I guess the House was too busy naming post offices.

Casino67!

My, apparently mistaken impression, was that this was what the "Stimulus" provided: shovel ready jobs, rebuilding infrastructure. I remember discussing this with my brother, a commercial real estate agent in Cali. His wife's brother-in-law, owns and operates an asphalt company, that he built up from scratch. He now makes his own asphalt and supplies it to several other paving companies, along with using it himself. When the stimulus was first talked about, my brother said,"No way can these paving jobs be shovel ready for any 'Joe Schmoe' wanting to go to work...it takes a minimum of 3 to 7 years to properly cook and lay hot asphalt....especially for government projects!"

I would assume that concrete, steel & forms also require something of an informal apprenticeship.

I've been reading that we've been fundamentally changed already.......and soon we'll know everything there is to know about monkey's on cocaine, prostitutes in Thailand and underground turtle crossings in Florida.

(I get the feeling you aren't taking this seriously.)sarcasm :) If you were a turtle in Florida, maybe you would be concerned about x'ing the road. And maybe they vote.
