U.S. Rescuers May Have Killed British Captive in Afghanistan

A British aid worker who died Friday in Afghanistan, two weeks after she had been kidnapped, may have been killed by American soldiers trying to rescue her, Prime Minister David Cameron said Monday.

On Saturday, a statement from the press office of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan said that Linda Norgrove, 36, “was killed by her captors Friday night during an attempt to rescue her,” by United States special forces in eastern Afghanistan.

But on Monday morning, Mr. Cameron told reporters in London that Gen. David Petraeus, the top American commander in Afghanistan, “contacted my office to inform us that in the review of the rescue operation, new information had come to light about the circumstances surrounding Linda’s death.” Mr. Cameron added:
