But South Korean officials and analysts remain doubtful about Jong-Un's status as an indisputable successor as he is still being checked by potential rivals at a time when his father's health is declining and public loyalty is waning. During the Sept. 28 meeting of the Workers' Party representatives — the largest party gathering in three decades, Jong-Un was elected to a vice chairman of the Party’s Central Military Commission headed by Kim Jong-Il, according to the North's official media.
