Geee
Washington Examiner:Double ouch! Democrat trailing in West Virginia pollBy: MICHAEL BARONESenior Political Analyst09/21/10 3:20 PM EDTPublic Policy Polling, the North Carolina-based Democratic firm, announces a startling result in the special Senate election in West Virginia: Republican John Raese 46%, Democrat Joe Manchin 43%. This despite the fact that Manchin has the second highest job approval as governor of any incumbent PPP has tracked this year (Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is number one). But Barack Obama’s job rating in West Virginia is 30%-64% negative, and evidently a lot of Mountain State voters who are just fine with Manchin as governor don’t want him going to Washington to give the Obama Democrats another vote there.Note: Scott Rasmussen’s most recent poll shows Manchin up over Raese 50%-43%, which leaves Manchin on average ahead by 2%. Jill
??? Manchin was up by over 20 points just in July, and he's enormously populary in that state, a 70%+ approval rating. But it looks like he's going to lose this special election - maybe West Virginians have figured out that the Democrat Party has been key in practically destroying their own state's economy. AceRimmer
I'd rather see a few polls in another couple of weeks before I jump in on this one. If it is accurate though, you can thank the Chief resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for being a complete moron...
Stella
It would be interesting to know how many seniors and baby boomers were part of the polling. This is the group that has a big target on their backs thanks to the Democrats. As more is learned about Obamacare and things being added to it, the more alarmed people are getting. Maybe people will be voting for the Party rather than the individual. I agree, though, that we need to see more polls.
Sabre86
One poll does not make a trend, but it does show that the race is close and probably in the "toss up" category right now. The EPA is killing West Virginia and maybe without Byrd to hold the seat, there is finally a chance to flip it. The only reason the Sheets kept winning is because 90% of the stuff in the state was named for him, and a majority had probably never known that seat to have been held by anyone else.
