Australia’s first “Super Hornets” are conducting their first live weapon trials at the Woomera test range.

The new $60 million F/A-18F Super Hornet will replace the air force’s 40-year-old F-111s.

The jets, which can reach speeds of 2000km/h, have been making the flight from Edinburgh to Woomera each morning to test the air-to-ground weapons since August 30, and will continue until September 15.

The trials aim to complete “Initial Operational Capability” by December.
