HHS Launches Health Care Web Site for Spanish-Speakers
Thursday, September 09, 2010
By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

(CNSNews.com) - The Health and Human Services Department has unveiled a Spanish-language Web site intended to help non-English-speaking U.S. residents “take control of their health.”

CuidadodeSalud.gov will connect Spanish-speakers to “new information and resources that will help them access quality, affordable health care coverage,” HHS said in a news release on Wednesday. The new Web site is similar to HealthCare.gov, which HHS launched in July.

The Spanish-language Web site allows individuals, families, and small businesses to compare both public and private health coverage options tailored specifically to their needs.

In several places, the Web site states that that only U.S. citizens or legal immigrants qualify for Medicaid, CHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program), and the new pre-existing condition insurance plan (PCIP).

However, as the Heritage Foundation has noted, nothing in the new health care law bars illegal immigrants from purchasing insurance through the yet-to-be-established government health-insurance exchanges, which are slated to begin in 2014.snip
