Casino67
Uncoverage.net:“Once the decision is made to go to war, politicians MUST shut up, get out of the way and let the military do its job.” – A statement I’ve made many, many times since my first interest in the military. When being “politically correct” is more important than the lives of your military personnel, someone has to step forward and right that wrong. That’s exactly what happened in Iraq in 2005 and the story is the stuff movies are made of. A British SAS unit, operating in Basra, had two of its soldiers captured by dissident infiltrators. The commanding officer of that unit immediately initiated a rescue plan and submitted that plan to the highest authorities for approval. They refused, citing the embarrassment to the British government that would result. Before the echo of that refusal had ceased, the CO ordered the rescue attempt to proceed, knowing it would cost him his military career. He put the lives of his men ahead of his own career and the outrageously perceived embarrassment his civilian commanders feared. _________________________((This story is about the courage of the UK military officers to tell their government to "bugger off."))
