Hunter Biden made an unannounced appearance on Capitol Hill on Wednesday and briefly visited the House Oversight Committee, where lawmakers were conducting a hearing on the vote to hold him in contempt of Congress.

His appearance came as a surprise to Republicans. The president’s son took no questions as he entered the room, but upon leaving roughly 30 minutes after he arrived, he remarked to reporters about the controversial conversations he had with his business partners while his father, President Joe Biden, was on the phone.

“If he called you, would you answer the phone?” Hunter Biden said.

The hearing comes after the committee subpoenaed the first son to appear for a deposition on Dec. 13, 2023. Hunter Biden instead appeared in Washington and delivered remarks outside the Capitol building, saying he was only willing to testify at a public hearing.

Nancy Mace erupts at Hunter Biden during hearing: ‘Should be arrested right here, right now’

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) erupted at Hunter Biden for showing up at a House Oversight hearing, calling for him to be arrested as the committee debated holding him in contempt of Congress.

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, showed up to the hearing about whether to hold him in contempt for failing to comply with a subpoena to sit for a deposition. Mace called his actions on Wednesday the “epitome of white privilege” and said he was “spitting” in the committee’s face.

The South Carolina Republican was then interrupted by a Democrat on the committee calling for a vote to hear from Hunter Biden in public at the hearing. She then questioned whether women are allowed to speak as the Democrat kept interrupting.

“Are women allowed to speak? You keep interrupting me?” “I think that Hunter Biden should be arrested right here, right now, and go straight to jail. Our nation is founded on the rule of law and the premise that the law applies equally to everyone, no matter what your last name is.”

“It’s no secret that Hunter Biden is using his privilege to evade any sense of accountability. He showed up in the People’s House as a PR stunt. It’s horrendous that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are standing him as he spits in the face of the American people,” Mace said.

Hunter Biden’s surprise appearance only lasted for the beginning of the hearing, and he took few questions as he left. This is Biden’s second appearance on Capitol Hill in the past month, without complying with the subpoena from the House. He held a press conference outside of the Capitol in December when he called for a public hearing rather than a closed-door deposition.
