Ohio Gov. DeWine Signs ‘Emergency’ Executive Order Banning Transgender Surgeries for Minors After Vetoing Similar Bill

Ohio’s Republican governor, Mike DeWine, signed an “emergency” executive order Friday banning transgender surgeries for minors, one week after he vetoed a bill that would have had a similar effect.

The bill would also have banned cross-sex hormones and so-called puberty blockers for children, measures DeWine’s executive order apparently omits. The bill would also have addressed fairness in women’s sports, an issue DeWine’s order also does not address.

DeWine vetoed House Bill 68, the Enact Ohio Saving Adolescents from Experimentation Act, last week. The bill would bar physicians from performing gender-reassignment surgery on a minor and from prescribing cross-sex hormones or drugs to block puberty for the purpose of gender transition. It also would enable students to sue if they are deprived of a fair playing field in sports due to gender activism and protect parents’ rights to raise their children according to their biological sex.

Ohio’s Top Children’s Hospital Coaches Doctors To Circumvent Parents Wary Of Trans Treatments, Training Videos Show

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital lobbied Mike DeWine to veto ban on trans surgeries for minors
Brent Scher

An Ohio hospital that actively lobbied Republican Gov. Mike DeWine to veto a ban on transgender procedures for minors has grossly misrepresented its approach to parental involvement in decisions, according to internal training videos obtained by The Daily Wire.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which both hosted DeWine onsite ahead of his veto of the ban on transgender procedures and testified against it in the legislature, said publicly in its opposition campaign that parental involvement is a priority. Steve Davis, the hospital’s president and CEO, testified that the bill “would hinder doctors and parents from collaboratively deciding the best treatment for their children.” He also stated that parental consent is always required.

Top officials in the hospital’s heralded Transgender Health Center, however, said otherwise in an internal training session on how to approach transgender-identifying children. The training sessions reveal not only that doctors strategize how to circumvent parents skeptical about their children undergoing sex-change procedures, but also that they are actively steering children towards undergoing treatments, which have skyrocketed in recent years at the facility.

Ohio House Overrides Governor In Next Step To Outlaw Trans Child Mutilation
Jordan Boyd
January 10, 2024

The Ohio House overrode a veto from their Republican governor on Wednesday when 65 representatives voted to end transgender child mutilation and ban men from invading women’s sports in the state.

Most Ohioans and most Americans say kids with gender dysphoria should not be chemically castrated or surgically mutilated and cross-dressing men should not be able to invade women’s sports teams. Ohio Republicans’ “Save Adolescents From Experimentation Act” would have outlawed both, but Gov. Mike DeWine recently vetoed the bill.
