Carlson’s Comments About Fox Management ‘Played A Role In His Departure’

  • Many of Tucker Carlson’s private messages were released in motions filed by Dominion, revealing that the host was skeptical of many of the election-fraud claims made on-air by Trump-affiliated attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani.
  • But it was Carlson’s comments about Fox management, as revealed in the Dominion case, that played a role in his departure from Fox, a person familiar with the company’s thinking told the Post.
  • The announcement came less than a week after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems, which had sued the network for false claims about the 2020 election, for $787.5 million hours before opening arguments were to begin. Carlson was among several on-air personalities expected to testify.

CNN:Don Lemon and CNN part ways

David Goldman and Oliver Darcy, CNN
Updated 1:48 PM EDT, Mon April 24, 2023

CNN has parted ways with longtime host Don Lemon. The announcement Monday came without explanation and astonished the media industry.

“Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” said CNN CEO Chris Licht in a memo to staff. “We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”

Lemon anchored “CNN This Morning” with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. The show has been on the air for nearly six months.

“We are committed to its success,” Licht said of the morning show.

Fox News 'took issue' with Tucker Carlson's 'derogatory remarks' towards staff and bosses before shock departure

Tucker Carlson was ousted by Fox News in part because executives were angry at his bitter criticism of them following the 2020 election, according to The Wall Street Journal - which, like Fox, is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Carlson, who joined Fox in 2009 after stints at CNN, PBS and MSNBC, was not told why he was being dismissed when CEO Suzanne Scott called him on Monday morning.

Scott told him the decision was made 'from above.' The decision was made on Friday night by Lachlan Murdoch, according to the WSJ.

The paper said that executives were angry at the 'disparaging and derogatory remarks' he made about colleagues, including a plea to get White House reporter Jacqui Heinrich fired for fact-checking Donald Trump, and calling his bosses 'incompetent liberals' and 'f******'.

The comments were made public as part of the defamation suit filed against Fox by Dominion voting systems, which was settled last week at a cost of $787.5 million.

Many of the messages were redacted at the request of Fox attorneys, but have been seen by top Fox executives.:snip:

Carlson's departure from Fox stirs positive reactions from conservatives

Tucker Carlson's departure from Fox News on Monday stirred positive reactions from conservatives on social media.

Satire website The Babylon Bee tweeted an article with the headline, "Fox News Fires The Only Reason People Watch Fox News." The post garnered nearly 60,000 likes in less than three hours.

"Good for Tucker. Trust me, he doesn’t need them," tweeted reporter Megyn Kelly, whose Fox News show was replaced by "Tucker Carlson Tonight" in 2017.

"I know he will be missed and more importantly, will go on to do great things," Fox News contributor Caitlyn Jenner said.

"Remember when [then-House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi kicked me off of all my committees? I was set free. So is Tucker Carlson. Can’t wait," Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted.:snip:
