Still, Republicans remained close to winning control of the U.S. House of Representatives as officials continued counting ballots cast in Tuesday's U.S. midterm elections. Not only have they lost the Senate, they have an increasingly difficult path to gaining control of the House. And the latest news out of Washington state’s 3rd Congressional District, which voted R+13 in 2020, is alarming: Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate, Joe Kent, has lost to Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. This is a serious blow to the GOP, who needed to keep this seat, currently held by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, to gain the majority. It should have been a slam dunk in deep red southwest Washington.
