Elon Musk assured Twitter's advertisers on Thursday that he will not allow the social media platform to turn into a "free-for-all hellscape" following the closing of his pending $44 billion acquisition.

"Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!," Musk said in a lengthy statement entitled "Dear Twitter Advertisers." "In addition to adhering to our laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences."

Bloomberg News reported separately that Musk instructed Tesla engineers to gain control of the company’s code “so they could assess and explain to Musk what the company needs.”

The move means that Twitter’s engineers were no longer able to make any changes to the code as part of “an effort to ensure that nothing about the product changes ahead of the deal closing.”

Musk released a statement earlier on Thursday to advertisers explaining why he wanted to buy Twitter and ensuring them that they do not have to worry about Twitter becoming a “free-for-all hellscape.”

BREAKING: Elon Musk announces Twitter 'content moderation council' ahead of lifting permabans

“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” wrote Musk, suggesting that those with life-long bans like the former U.S. President will have to wait awhile longer before they can rejoin the platform.

A day after taking over Twitter, Elon Musk has announced the formation of a content moderation council to decide on the future of the platform’s content policy.

Posting on Twitter, Musk said that the social media platform will establish a “content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.” The move comes following Musk’s plans to end the platform’s practice of permanently banning users for violating the site’s terms of service.

Musk did not provide details on how he intends to populate the council, nor did he name any specific individuals.
