Valin
The Washington Examiner Anna Giaritelli, Homeland Security Reporter August 05, 2022 The state of Texas has expanded its operation of busing illegal immigrants released at the border, adding New York City to its list of destinations in an effort to put pressure on sanctuary city Democrats — especially Mayor Eric Adams. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) announced Friday that the first bus had pulled into the borough of Manhattan. Abbott, seeking a third term in November, said the addition of the bus route to the existing one to Washington is partly political and partly logistical. (Snip) Abbott sent Adams and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser a letter Monday offering to arrange a visit so they can see for themselves how "local communities are being overrun" as a record-high number of illegal immigrants are encountered attempting to enter the United States from Mexico without permission since President Joe Biden took office. The northeastern Democrats jumped into the immigration debate in late July, concerned about the number of illegal immigrants choosing to board more than 150 state-funded buses from Texas and Arizona that travel to Washington. Bowser did not respond to a request for comment, but Adams's spokesman said the mayor would not attend any tour and reasserted that the city was open to receiving migrants despite having complained days earlier that the city was overwhelmed.
