The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a long-standing New York concealed carry law violated the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The high court heard arguments over the case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen in November, when justices in the 6-3 Republican-appointed majority appeared skeptical of the law's requirement to demonstrate a "proper cause" for obtaining a license to carry a concealed pistol or revolver.

Justice Clarence Thomas authored the 6-3 ruling on Thursday.

A pair of plaintiffs who challenged the law, Robert Nash and Brandon Koch, filed their lawsuit after the Empire State rejected their concealed carry applications for insufficiently demonstrating a special need for a permit despite having already passed required background checks for gun licenses for hunting and target practice.:snip:

Biden's Department of Justice issues statement that 'disagrees' with SCOTUS ruling on gun ban

Quote

* "We respectfully disagree with the Court’s conclusion that the Second Amendment forbids New York’s reasonable requirement that individuals seeking to carry a concealed handgun must show that they need to do so for self-defense. The Department of Justice remains committed to saving innocent lives by enforcing and defending federal firearms laws, partnering with state, local and tribal authorities and using all legally available tools to tackle the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our communities."

Too Bad!!!! Do your job and keep your official opinions to yourself!!!

It is not their job to agree or disagree, only to enforce the law  - just as it is not the Courts job to agree or disagree, but to interpret the intention of  the laws passed by the legislature and to determine whether or not those laws conform to the Constitution.
