San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin seized control of a burglary ring investigation developed by police, but his efforts embarrassingly backfired when no one agreed to transport a suspect and evidence after the raid, officials said.

The move backfired on Boudin when media reports surfaced that he resorted to renting a U-Haul to confiscate 130 banker’s boxes of electronics, the San Francisco Police Officers Association said.

“Boudin is creating his own facts to save his political career,” SFPOA President Tracy McCray told the Washington Examiner. “SFPD officers developed this case from the beginning. While we cannot reveal details of the investigation, the DA was insistent on marching ahead on his own timeline, on his own, even though that jeopardized aspects of the investigation.”

Relatives

After his parents were incarcerated, Boudin was raised in Chicago by adoptive parents Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, who, like his parents, had been members of the Weather Underground.[10] Boudin reports that he did not learn to read until age nine.[11] Kathy Boudin was released under parole supervision in 2003.[12][13] Gilbert was released in 2021.[14]

Boudin descends from a long left-wing lineage. His great-grand-uncle, Louis B. Boudin,[15] was a Marxist theoretician and author of a two-volume history of the Supreme Court's influence on American government, and his grandfather Leonard Boudin was an attorney who represented controversial clients such as Fidel Castro and Paul Robeson.[16] His uncle Michael Boudin[15] was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Michael Boudin's uncle Isidor Feinstein Stone was an independent journalist.[15][17]
