In 6-3 decision, Chief Justice Robert writes in opinion that cap is unconstitutional

 

 

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled in favor of GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in a case involving the use of campaign funds to repay personal campaign loans, according to news reports.

 

In a 6-3 decision, the high court said that a federal cap on candidates using political contributions after the election to recoup personal loans made to their campaign was unconstitutional, according to CNN.

In the dissenting opinion for the court's liberal minority, Justice Elena Kagan wrote the law was meant to prevent "a special danger of corruption" connected to "political contributions that will line a candidate's own pockets.":snip:
