Republican leaders warned Thursday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., may have hobbled chances of critical bipartisan legislative agreements after she accused President Trump of criminal behavior before a bank of television cameras Wednesday morning.

Pelosi’s accusation prompted Trump to tell Democratic leaders he won’t work with them on infrastructure or other bipartisan legislation. Trump angrily walked out of a White House meeting with Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Pelosi, earlier in the morning, had accused Trump of engaging in “a cover-up,” after she emerged from a meeting with rank-and-file lawmakers to discuss impeaching the president.

Can Democrats Pull Impeachment Out of the Hat?

John Hinderaker

May 23, 2019

It looks like impeachment hysteria is here to stay, at least until November 2020. The Democrats didn’t get what they were hoping for from the Mueller report, so why are they persisting with pointless “investigations” and talk about impeachment?

Two reasons, I think. First, they have successfully used hatred of President Trump to keep their base stirred up. If they start treating Trump as a normal president, people might notice the booming economy and other accomplishments of his administration. They have no choice but to keep the hysteria dialed up to 11, regardless of how silly their theories are.

HuffPo: 32 House Members Have Called For Congress To Start Trump Impeachment Proceedings

The chamber’s Democratic leadership continues to balk at beginning the process to oust Trump from office.

Paul Blumenthal

May 23 2019

At least 32 members of the House have publicly called for the launch of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, based on his refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas and his obstruction of justice.

The impeachment inquiry still faces resistance from the Democratic Party leaders who control the 435-member chamber. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is cautioning that opening the inquiry prove “divisive” and is something Trump desires as a potential political benefit to him.

The ranks of these lawmakers consist of 31 Democrats and one Republican. They include eight Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee ― one-third of the party members on the panel.

Just two senators ― Democrats Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California ― publicly back an impeachment inquiry. And no signs have surfaced that if articles of impeachment passed the House on the required majority vote, the effort would come anywhere close to the two-thirds Senate vote needed to remove Trump from office.
