State of the Union

I thought it was most disrespectful of Ms Pelosi to be reading during the president's speech. I don't think we have seen that before.

I was glad when the 'never socialism' statement was being applauded, that they showed Sanders and not the nutcase Ocasio-Cortez.

I was also happy Trump stayed on script.

What a powerful finish.   The tie in of WW2 Vet at beginning and rescued “kid” from concentration camp at end was good.

I didn't watch it. Can't deal with that. It was Kamala Harris and she is running for president, right? So of course it would be all about her. Ugh.

Actually it was the lady who lost governor’s race in Georgia.  Strange choice.

Stacey Abrams SOTU Response Was Bizarre (And It's Based on Lies)

Failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams prepared the Democrats' response to President Trump's State of the Union address. Going into it, none of us really knew what to expect but honestly, the bar wasn't set too high. Abrams never conceded to Brian Kemp and she's continually pushed the idea that "voter suppression" (not the people's voice) is what kept her from winning her bid for governor of Georgia.

Although the Democrats might not have known exactly what President Trump was going to address on Tuesday night, whoever wrote her speech cast a really, really wide net. She mentioned issues Trump didn't even touch on, like gun control and climate change. Not only that, but the response was focused on Abrams personal story. And while she tried to use her own anecdotal experiences to deliver a message, it came off as selfish and rather narcissistic. :snip:

Byron York: Trump goes big, uses delayed State of the Union to make case on border, much more

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., disinvited President Trump from delivering the State of the Union on its originally scheduled date, Jan. 29, the White House and Republicans in Congress brainstormed about what to do. Should Trump travel somewhere, such as the U.S.-Mexico border, and give his speech there? Should he show up at the Capitol on the 29th and demand to speak? Should he deliver the address in writing, as it was for many years of the nation's history?

Fortunately for Trump, none of those ideas passed muster. Then, when the partial government shutdown was temporarily resolved, the speaker relented and invited the president to appear Feb. 5. Trump agreed, which to some Republicans seemed like a surrender but was in fact a wise decision. Trump realized that there simply was no equally good alternative to delivering the State of the Union from the House chamber, with most of the United States government gathered inside and millions watching not only on the cable news channels but the broadcast entertainment networks, too.:snip:

Trump's State of the Union nailed the border wall and immigration in just 4 sentences

President Trump on Tuesday dedicated a large portion of his State of the Union address to the immigration issue. It was all good, but there were four sentences that drove home the message that matters the most, and an argument that Democrats will never be able to refute (should reporters confront them with it).

Trump said:

In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall — but the proper wall never got built. I will get it built.

This is a smart, strategic, see-through steel barrier — not just a simple concrete wall. It will be deployed in the areas identified by the border agents as having the greatest need, and these agents will tell you: where walls go up, illegal crossings go way, way down.:snip:

Democrats Embarrass Themselves

John Hinderaker

February 5, 2019

So President Trump is about to give the State of the Union speech, and Democratic women are infesting the House chamber, dressed in white. As I understand it, they are impersonating suffragettes. So, today’s liberals can’t vote? Hmm, don’t think that is exactly right. Democracy Dies In Darkness!! No, actually, democracy dies in stupidity.

Much more to come.
