Today in History: Dietrich Bonhoeffer martyred

1945, German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was hanged by the Gestapo, after discovering his plot to kill Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. Bonhoeffer's last recorded words were, "This is the end -- for me, the beginning of life."

I got my book two days ago. We happened upon the Flossenburg camp by accident in 1992 while exploring the newly available former GDR with newlyweds Rokke and Snoozen. There was a wall plaque commemorating that being the place where Bonhoeffer was executed even then.
