C-17 Crashes at Elmendorf Air Force Base

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A plane has crashed near Elmendorf Air Force Base. According to the Associated Press, the Army National Guard has confirmed that the plane was a C-17.

A large cloud of smoke was visible spewing above the base before 6:00. Witnesses said the smoke and flames were coming from an area near the Elmendorf runway, perhaps a couple of miles into the woods.

Initial indications had at least four people on board.
