Clemson Dining’s “Maximum Mexican” night, has become a student favorite over the last several years, and this year was no different, at first. Everything was going great. Students were loving the food and festivities. Except for two students, who took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the school’s decision to host such a “#CUlturallyInsensitive” event. Draggingtree
Some Students ‘Offended’ by Clemson’s ‘Maximum Mexican’ Food Day by Rick Moran October 9, 2015 - 12:05 pm Here’s something you don’t see every day: people protesting Mexican food as “culturally insensitive” to Mexicans. Well, maybe we do see it every day but because we’re so used to it, our sensibilities have been numbed by the totally predictable response of the Outrage Brigade on campuses. . But what is truly fascinating about this incident is that the overwhelming majority of students love the food and love the idea of having a day devoted to Mexican cuisine. But because of a handful of people claiming to be “offen ded,” the school administration apologized. Draggingtree
Advice to Clemson: Have a Puerto Rican food day! October 9th, 2015 Clemson U. is apologizing over its Mexican food day. I propose a Puerto Rican food day instead. You may even promote it as “Puerto Rican food: Half the gas with all the calories!” Read my suggestions for menu, music (dare I ask for Japanese salsa?), and the national Puerto Rican hat right here. http://faustasblog.com/2015/10/advice-to-clemson-have-a-puerto-rican-food-day/
Draggingtree
October 10, 2015 Maximum Mexican Multicultural Madness By Jeannie DeAngelis Navigating the maze of cultural diversity in America is beginning to feel like gingerly crossing a melting lake, fearful of any moment falling through the ice. This is especially true on college campuses, where cultural diversity is celebrated and where students are taught that sensitivity is more important than sanity, and that every culture – except American culture – is worthy of respect. That kind of skewed mentality backfired when, after hosting their annual "Maximum Mexican" night, where Mexican cuisine was served by the university dining services, South Carolina's Clemson University was forced to issue a mea culpa to offended students. What's confusing is that besides Clemson being über-thoughtful when it comes to multiculturalism, according to the university's cultural ambassadors, Hispanic Heritage month, thus far, has been a smashing success. At the start of the fall semester, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Monterrey's of Clemson even hosted a night of Mexican dancing and free Mexican food. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/10/maximum_mexican_multicultural_madness.html
