Well, that was fun. But now I have to go re-read them again because when I read them the first time I thought they were predictions for next year. The funny thing is, they all made more sense for next year and I didn't recognize many of them happening last year.

Maybe TRR should capture some of its own predictions for 2011.

I'll start.

1. Rising gas prices early in the year will stagnate any pending economic growth and result in unemployment above 10% for most of the year.

2. The situation in Afghanistan will look almost the same on 31 Dec 2011 as it does on 1 Jan 2011.

3. The Iraqi economy will grow faster than that of any western nation.

4. Kim Yong Il will assume leadership of North Korea and shortly after depart for China for extensive medical treatments. North Korea will subsequently become a lot more stable, a lot more quiet and a lot more Chinese.

yeah...second verse, same as the first.

I predict that somewhere in 2011/12, the man child will be severely tested and I'm not talking Afghanistan, Iran, Middle East or N Korea. Although those areas are still ripe for trouble I'm thinking more along the lines of Russia, China or Pakistan.

Russia wants to expand. Who's going to stop them?

China wants Tiawan. Who's going to stop them?

Pakistan wants...well, who the hell knows what Pakistan wants, but they want it. Crazy bastards with nukes.

The weakest POTUS in history has amply demonstrated that he will do nothing and that is exactly how he is perceived by the world power weilders. In the world power game, perception truly IS reality.

LOL, Valin

I was going to say much the same.

So I will say I predict that the following will only grow stronger:

"..men (and women) will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power;....."

Is there any way to recover the posts from the last day of 2009? May be interesting to see what we were discussing a year ago. Not each post, but a compilation of the thread titles.

2011 is going to be a very interesting year. No way to even fantasize what may happen. I know this site is going to be very exciting and informative.

12/2009 start on page 237 of pages in News and Opinion. Not any real way to capture but you can scroll through and see the titles and threads that way.

Climate change was a big topic.

I always find it interesting to read what the pundits (Left & Right) said was going to happen. I wonder if there is a site out there that provides how often they were right and wrong?

TAS: The "W" in W. James Antle III Stands for "Wrong"

W. James Antle, III

12.31.10

Instead of making a bunch of predictions for New Years, I like the idea of opinion-mongers taking the time to admit the predictions they got wrong in the past year.

(Snip)

2. Every Tea Party-aligned conservative Senate candidate who won the Republican primary would win the general, except for Christine O'Donnell -- and even she would break 40 percent of the vote..............(Snip)

3. Harry Reid can't win reelection.........(Snip)

Slate: The Right To Be Wrong

Pundit accountability: Which predictions did I blow in 2010?

By David Weigel

Dec. 30, 2010

Last year the economist Bryan Caplan had a dream. "One day," he wrote, "people who refuse to bet on their statements will be viewed with greater contempt than those who bet and lose." He was talking about pundit accountability, a beautiful concept that will never be adopted, because no one wants to look stupid, and that's the inevitable result of any such plan. Guess how many jobs the stimulus will create—then eat your words when it falls short! Confidently predict where Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction are hidden—and, well, get a book deal and a first printing of 500,000. But that's sort of the point: There is no real downside, at least in Washington, for being wrong.

In 2010, I wrote hundreds of thousands of words for multiple publications. I wrote more words, in 140-character increments, on Twitter. I said a bunch of stuff on television and radio and in speeches. How'd I do with my own predictions? Not terrible! Because I report more than pontificate, almost nothing I wrote or said was based on pure speculation. When I bobbled a prediction, it was because I was praying to the God of Sensational Headlines—usually the kind that end in question marks—or being goaded into Caplan-esque bets on Twitter. I developed a habit of predicting the final winners of elections on the night candidates were nominated, or the seats became open, such as "Congratulations, Sen. Richard Blumenthal" or "Congratulations, Sen. Joe Manchin." Fewer elections in 2011 means less of that and more attention to the big-picture stuff. Like this.

You have become quite accomplished at posting now. I almost don't feel needed. ;)

No going out for us tonight. It's a stay at home night with Benydryl and Champagne. Should make it to about 8pm.

Out of curiosity, I googled 'pundis who were wrong' and got 1.5 million results. Did the same for 'pundits who were right' and got 2.8 million hits. Totally meaningless info.

Here are two predictions for 2011 that I would love to come true: ;)

Hillbuzz

Here are a few predictions we expect to come true:

(1) Andrew Breitbart is going to bring down Obama with the Pigford Black Reparations expose he’s pushing. Breitbart is a dog with a bone and will not stop. Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Darryl Issa are going to demand answers to why the USDA, under Obama’s orders, allowed tens of thousands of fraudulent payments of $50,000 a piece in “Obama money” to black Obama supporters in 2010 via Pigford. Obama will most likely still be in office by the end of 2011, but Breitbart’s work is going to assure he’s the one term president we always knew he would be.

(2) Michelle Antoinette Obama is going to have her “let them eat cake moment”. She’s come close already, but the more Pigford is in the news, the more criticism of the Obamas will be allowed in the media, and the more perturbed she will be that the days of her being lauded as “a global fashion icon” will be over. She’ll snap at someone, in public, and it will be indelible. It is only a matter of time.

I was skeptical that it could go anywhere, but if Breitbart is continuing his expose and congress is also not going to let it go...it could be a good one!

1. The military will take its own sweet time in integrating openly gay servicemembers. Republicans will face internal generational divisions over challenging the repeal.

2. The Republicans will want to take a chainsaw to Obamacare and in some cases may succeed with help from suddenly repentent Democrats.

3. This will be the year of the RINOS versus the Tea Party members. Who wins depends on how much the RINOS are willing to bend over for Obama when they realize they don't have to.

4. At some point, Nancy Pelosi will be gone as Minority Speaker. She'll simply be too much of an albatross around the House Democrats' necks in the aftermath of their "Shellacking."

5. Hillary Clinton will resign as Secretary of State and be replaced by Bill Richardson, fueling speculation about a 2012 primary challenge to Obama.

6. After Jerry Brown takes office, California's fiscal apocalypse will hit rock bottom and he'll beg China for a bailout.
