Pictures: 120 NZ Freedom Convoy Protestors Arrested in Police Crackdown

Nathaniel Charles

10 Feb 2022

New Zealand police on Thursday arrested 120 people who were protesting against coronavirus restrictions outside the national parliament.

The estimated 120 individuals of all ages arrested were reported to have been attempting to camp in the capital Wellington for a third night, following two days of Freedom Convoy protests where initially over one thousand people and multiple vehicles gathered against against New Zealand’s vaccine mandates and coronavirus restrictions.

In an effort to deter future protests, police have warned all those arrested will face trespass and obstruction charges alongside prosecution in court.

The police had reportedly told the remaining around 150-200 protestors – many of whom had vowed to stay there “as long as it takes – that they were trespassing, despite it being common practice for protest groups to rally on the lawn outside the parliament, and police previously having said their presence did “not constitute a trespass notice.”

Freedom Convoy Spreads Through Europe to France

Nathaniel Charles

10 Feb 2022

Canadian-inspired freedom convoys have spread through Europe and now into France, where citizens are planning to stage their own vehicle led protest movement against coronavirus restrictions in Paris on Saturday.

A French group called “The Liberty Convoy” on Facebook is supporting the move and has already attracted over 300,000 members on the social media platform, although there is presently no indication from organisers or law enforcement how many may actually be physically involved in the convoy.

Paris police ban Canada-style 'Freedom Convoy' protest against French COVID restrictions

Feb. 10 2022

Police in Paris have banned a planned demonstration in the French capital this weekend as part of a so-called "Freedom Convoy", inspired by a truckers' protest against COVID restrictions in Canada.

The authorities claim the movement's objective is to "block the capital" from Friday before heading to Brussels for a wider protest.

Measures will be put in place to "prevent the blocking of roads, issue fines and arrest those who break this ban," the police headquarters said in a statement (in French). The ban will last from Friday until Monday.

Thousands of opponents of France's vaccine pass have said on social media they intend to converge on Paris.

Canadian 'Freedom Convoy' forces the shutdown of General Motors, Ford automotive plants

Shutdowns result of truckers protesting Canadian government's COVID mandates occupying the Ambassador Bridge between Ontario, Detroit

Sophie Mann

Feb. 10 2022

The 'Freedom Convoy' truckers shut down a Ford plant on Wednesday at the COVID-19 restrictions protestors lined a bridge between Canada and Detroit.

The protest prevented the flow of traffic between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, as the group blocked the Ambassador Bridge for the third day.

Traffic into the U.S. otherwise was not impeded. The bridge supports 25% of all trade between the U.S. and Canada, increasing the worry by Canadian authorities about the economic impact of the protest.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is still saying 'no' to easing COVID restrictions and will not meet with the leaders of the convoy.

On Wednesday, Ford said it was forced to shut down its engine plant in Windsor due to a shortage of parts and place an assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, on a reduced schedule for the same reason.

Know this! Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo. All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is The Freedom Convoy campaign.

Dozens of police move in on Ambassador Bridge to clear trucker protest

Dozens of police moved in on an ongoing trucker protest at the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit, Michigan to Windsor, Ontario, Saturday morning, appearing to follow through on threats made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford to clear the demonstration.

Police, wearing yellow safety vests, moved into place around 8:45 a.m. local time, according to CBC News, directing protesters to clear the bridge. CBC reporters also noted that police brought several armored vehicles and that law enforcement had formed a blockade.

Windsor police announced on Twitter that they have "commenced enforcement" of a court order demanding that the convoy leave the Ambassador Bridge.

"The Windsor Police & its policing partners have commenced enforcement at and near the Ambassador Bridge," the department noted on social media. 'We urge all demonstrators to act lawfully & peacefully. Commuters are still being asked to avoid the areas affected by the demonstrations at this time."

French police fired tear gas at demonstrators on the Champs Elysees avenue in Paris on Saturday shortly after a "Freedom Convoy" protesting against COVID-19 restrictions made it into the capital.

Cars carrying protesters managed to get through police checkpoints in central Paris to snarl traffic around the Arc de Triomphe monument.

Inspired by horn-blaring "Freedom Convoy" demonstrations in Canada, the motorists waved French flags and honked in defiance of a police order not to enter the city.

Police told protesters to move on as some climbed on their cars in the middle of the roundabout at the top of the Champs Elysees

Earlier police said they had stopped 500 vehicles that were trying to get into Paris and nearly 300 tickets were handed out to their occupants by mid-morning, police said.
